Jmo but Deboer needs to hold an open tryout for a fg kicker.

Seriously, there has to be a Student on campus that is more reliable than what Bama currently has.

I want to blame Talty but I can’t. I was a kicker. It was 100% on the snapper. There is a ton of timing in kicking guys. When the ball is set late, the timing is off. Talty had 0 time to wait because the Oklahoma player was right there and he got a finger on it.

I’m just talking about the miss yesterday.

Did the Oklahoma player commit a penalty by jumping over the long snapper ?

Never thought of this angle as I wasn't a kicker. For us we always looked at it as your only job is to kick so don't screw it up.

It wa also a 36 yard kick.... does everything need to be perfect for a short kick?

Talty is simply terrible. I’m hoping he never plays a single play at Bama ever again. I’ve never seen a kicker at the Division I level who is so completely unreliable beyond 40 yards. He probably needs to play at the NAIA level.

Honestly, I would look at the FCS and even the Division II ranks for a reliable kicker. Kickers and punters are probably the only positions that translate from that level to FBS. Of course, that would be for next year.

This year, I think Bama should just go for it on the 4th down every play.

Yes and no.

It’s not illegal to jump over the snapper. It is illegal to put your hands (or feet) on him and use him for “leverage.” The OU player put both hands on the snapper while he was over him. It should have been a clear as day flag

The OU player got a finger on it because he hooked it straight into his hand. That had zero to do with the kick being missed. The snap sucked and many of them have sucked all year. The snapper needs to go too, but Talty still could’ve made that short of a FG.

Thought of this very thing last night. He needs to do a Mike Leach and find an ex-HS soccer player/engineering student who can kick accurately.

Weve had plenty of really, really bad kickers to go with our good’uns. There was a time we used to hold our breath on every xp.

Special teams coach needs to quit being too special. Snapper and holder have messed Talty up several times this year, but Talty isn’t great outside of 35 yards regardless.

After he jumped over the o-line... (thought that was a penalty). That was key (finger) in the review. Ball went wonky after that.

I was thinking the same thing. High school kickers are routinely hitting 50+ in this day and age

It just sickens me that Talty gets free tuition and books to a premier institution for simply breathing. He is worthless.

No it's not. It's illegal to get a running start and leap over the snapper (this did not happen). It's illegal to use the snapper (or anyone else) as leverage when leaping (this did happen)

The exception to the leaping rule is a player can jump over the snapper if he starts within a yard of the LOS and does not move forward. This part is a little ambiguous, the leverage part is not.

I know you were a former ref, but you are wrong in the sense that any leaping over is a penalty, there is an exception. The OU player put his hands on the snappers back, which should have drawn the leverage flag- which is a 15 yard penalty

I will take solace in the fact that our AD didn't get the graphics team to put his quote on twitter about how we were jobbed by the refs like Auburn did when they lost to OU. I hope Byrne have an ear full to Birmingham in private though. This is two years in a row against OU that we've had blatant wrong decisions hurt us in the game.
