Alright so we’re ranked 4th as of today, but also not playing in the SECC. As far as I know, the conference championships no longer affect your rankings as far as byes go. Does this mean we don’t play the SECC AND we get a bye in the first round? How is this actually going to work?

I think byes go to Top 4, irrespective of conference championships.

Yes.

That’s a LOT of weeks without playing real football. I don’t like that at all. Especially when the opponent will be coming off a game the previous week.

There’s a reason all 4 teams with byes last year lost in the quarterfinals

Are we 4th is that confirmed? The playoff rankings aren’t out yet. We should be number 3 and jump A&M imo. We have far far better wins and weren’t down at half 30-3 to a 3-6 team.

I agree but we’re pretty banged up too, might be a good thing to get everyone healthy again? However you’re correct, Last year the byes actually hurt every team that got them

Indiana didn’t drop last week and TAMU ain’t dropping this week. We lost at home to Bama, who lost to a shite FSU team

For now. If bama beats A&M in the sec championship, they both will be on the top 4 - remember how losers won’t be punished unless A&M loses one of its last regular season game? So at best, we’d be 5

Right now, there are worse scenarios than top five hosting a quarter final game at Sanford against the number 12 team.

We will be 4th and only stay there or up if we beat Tech. So we get a bye. Literally best spot we can be.

We move into SECCG if Bama loses to AU or A&M loses to Texas.

Under no scenario do we want either of those teams to lose.

We DO NOT want into SECCG. Zero upside and all kinds of downside.

1-injury..look how many we had last night
2-energy spent on game prep
3-more game tape for opponents
4-loss would likely move you further down the bracket and possibly go from bye to not even hosting a playoff game (unlikely)
5-likely a loss in SECCG would move you from bye to having to play another extra game ..2x extra games.

Not sure I agree with this.

I mean the teams with byes were:

Georgia
Arizona State
Boise State
Oregon

We were playing with a young, inexperienced QB.
Arizona State just wasn't very good
Boise State..see Arizona State
Oregon lost to Ohio State. Ohio State was just the better team.

In all honesty, I don't think the bye hurt the teams. It was a matter of weak teams getting byes because of the set up and we had an inexperienced QB...then Oregon ran into a buzz saw. You can argue the bye hurt Oregon, I guess. I would argue more that Ohio State had more experience in huge games.

2 fallacies (in my opinion) in this thread...losing in a conference championship game would not hurt a team, and the bye hurt the teams that got them.

Last season every team that lost in their CCG dropped in their seedings. Some lost their bye. (Penn State) I will acknowledge that Penn State lost their bye because of the way things were set up, but if Penn State had beaten Oregon in their CCG, I suspect Penn State would have gotten the by, and Oregon would have lost their bye. The only way I see not playing in the SECCG could hurt Georgia is if someone does play in their game and wins could jump us in the standings.

These are just my opinions, so don't everybody go nuts down voting my post, unless you are willing to present your opposing view providing a reasoned argument.

We also go to Atlanta if there is a 3-way tie with Bama, us, and Ole Piss in 2 weeks(if Bama beats Auburn and OM wins the Egg Bowl) for 2nd place. The 3-way eliminates the H2H and we would go to play A & M

Hot take: would it be for the best if UGA lost against GT in 2 weeks

Pretty sure that tie breaker is opponent conference record and Bama wins that.
