Division II still relies on the traditional "regional" model - things aren't just called regionals, the opening rounds of the playoffs are truly regional.

In the SEC Footprint, the Division II South Region is made up of teams from the Gulf South Conference, the South Atlantic Conference, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Conference Carolinas.

The top eight teams in the region make the playoffs. So here's a look at the latest regional rankings.

7. Kentucky State (third place, SIAC)
8. Delta State (third place, GSC)
9. Emory and Henry (third place, SAC)

Kentucky State and Delta State were scheduled to play this week. Emory & Henry has a game against a team that is 1-7 in conference, so they should win.

Kentucky State backed out of their game against Delta State and scheduled a game against a crap team with a few days notice. A win will guarantee them a playoff spot, whereas a loss to Delta State may have put them out of the playoff.

Delta State is scrambling, because not playing this weekend could move them to 9th if E&H just blows out their opponent.

How are they allowed to get away with that?

That's bad. As punishment, they should make Kentucky St play Harding.

That's Terrible. Whatever bylaw allows something like this to happen needs to be amended or vetoed ASAP. Surely there will be a huge social media backlash that will force some action.

Good luck to the DSU Fighting Okra

Story

LINK

Kentucky State's explanation is crazy. The contract gave them an out if they were to play in the SIAC Championship Game, which they are not - they finished third.

Now they are saying that as the third place team, they are playing the third place team from Conference Carolinas in a crossover game. Well, Shorter is not the third place team, they are actually tied for last place.

Delta State is right to call them out.

Isn't it similar to baseball teams cancelling games that hurt their SoS? Better to cancel than to play and win.

Its actually the reverse of that. KSU is playing a weaker opponent to guarantee a win instead of playing a contracted road game against a team they are competing with for a playoff spot.

And yet people tell me the D2 model is great.

Meanwhile they just increased from a 28 team playoff to a 32 team playoff this year, and now you have shite like this. They have 16 AQ spots.

In reality, it doesn't sound like a single team in this discussion is really a NC quality team. Bunch of 3rd place teams in their own conferences.

Ohio State was the fourth place team in the B1G last year and won the national championship.

Yep it's silly.

They have 16 conferences with AQ status and 32 spots which makes it even more silly.
