Lowering of the hips

When a quarterback begins to slide ( drops hips).... It becomes illegal for a defensive player to make contact.. Refs got that particular call, and spot, right.

I didn't think they did at first but they did. I know it hurts but it was objectively the correct call.

It was obvious he started to slide before the line to gain.

Yeah it was the sort of mistake a QB without a lot of experience makes. If you are going to question calls from that game, that's not the one...that rule is very clear.

Horrible rule, like the targeting rule.

It actually makes sense.
If you can’t hit the player, that player can’t gain yardage
If you can’t hit the player, that player can’t gain yardage

The replay they initally showed with the yellow line on screen looked like he was beyond it.
But then there was another replay where you could see the sticks and he was clearly half a yard short.

If you slide you can’t really argue about refs spotting you short. If you want the extra yardage, lower the shoulder or dive.

I've never heard anyone argue this concept until now.
LSU fans.

Rule that needs to be changed is the one when you recover your own fumble the ball must go back to where it was fumbled like in the NFL.
Right now in college you get to keep whatever yards you gain.
Right now in college you get to keep whatever yards you gain.

That was pretty annoying last night when LSU fumbles and advances the ball 6 yards.
I guess we need a holy roller incident to get a rule change.

Not really. If the QB can't be hit, he doesn't get rewarded. I will say that Patrick Mahomes fake slide BS should be treated like targeting if it finds its way in to the college game. QB is ejected

I'm going to avoid this thread title

Rule became what it is now when Kenny Pickett was at Pitt and faked as if he was going to slide, defense let up and he kept running.

I didn't know that had happened but yeah...that's BS and makes me think football needs hockey style enforcers. Someone does that, put the enforcer in to destroy him the next play. In all seriousness it should at least be unsportsmanlike conduct.

You should put up a billboard about it.

Every week during football season we get to watch LSU fans here learn the rules of college football.

It is one of the few that makes sense. Protects the ball carrier in the lovey dovey age and spots the ball appropriately.
Almost every QB slide near the yard to gain is reviewed. How is this news?

What we don't need is you fricking gumps coming in to explain why the obviously bad call was actually correct.
This ain't our first rodeo, the call was correct because the REC said it was, and it benefited the tide like it always does. We don't give a frick about your refs, they are always an obstacle and always will be for everyone but you.
