If my school were even thinking about a coaching change, I’d table that for the year

There are just too many openings out there already, and most will either have to overpay or settle.

Maybe it’s the new normal, but I’d sure hate to be going into a bidding war this year.

Yeah, you can keep the bad coach and have another bad year or you can go get your 10th choice and have 3-4 bad years. I'd go with the first option.

It’s great for their rivals, though, that are more settled

I mean to be honest it’s always going to be like this. Every year. Last time USC was looking for a new coach both Florida and lsu had openings. Waiting doesn’t do you any good.

Disagree…..you can’t afford to sit idle in today’s college football. Be confident in your program and your donors and get the best coach that’s fits your school.

If you think you can outcompete the other schools, jump in the race. If not, sit back and do some deep scouting of coordinators and up-and-comers from small schools.

Accepting another bad year in the hopes it's not the same coaching carousel next year seems incredibly stupid.

There's an upgrade out there for every opening.

Good call. Because next year you will be there.

The top candidates for any cycle rarely work out.

Wait, you think A&M is going to be looking for a new coach next year?

I believe this is what's known as "hopium"

I don’t know. I think the recipe for success these days is finding an up and comer OC/DC and rolling the dice, or taking a chance on a guy who’s doing big things at a smaller school. Hanging on to only the “big names” seems to be a sure-fire way to end up saddled with a big buy-out/pricey disappointment.

I’m obviously thrilled with Elko, hired from freaking Duke, undefeated in year two, and in the thick of the playoff hunt, with an incentive-based contract.

Texas is far more likely to be in need of a new HC than A&M is next year.

I think it was a bit of a one-off, but I read that only four P4 coaches were fired last season. That was probably in anticipation of paying the players. That deferred a lot of firings to this year. And isn’t there going to be advertising patches on jerseys now?

So you had a perfect storm of few being fired in 2024 due to bad finances, and now they’re expecting a new revenue stream. So 2025 could be just a perfect storm situation for the coaching carousel.

With 16 teams there’s definitely the opportunity for there to be four or more head coaching opportunities in a given year if the average coaching cycle is 4-5 years

Any school that fires their coach at this point is beyond saving

We are handling our situation this year. Win or lose, it's already done.

You gotta remember what these cucks are getting paid. So yeah, expectations exist.

I see this posted often and honestly - I don't get it. After all the coaches this year are taken and moved around, exactly what is going to happen next year that is different?

All the coaches that took jobs this year are going to be at their new jobs and they'll still be unavailable.

Vernon knows nothing. He's just a child trying to get accepted and attend the school in Austin. Good luck little one!
