Why not just play Deuce the rest of the season?

Sure he is gonna make mistakes but who cares the season is over.
He will get well needed experience.
He might help many of the players and some key recruits from bolting.

I agree. A lot of those high profile recruits came to play with Deuce. There are 3 games left- you have nothing to lose.

Because playing QB is hard. If he isn't ready, you risk damaging is mental game and he won't recover. See Jeremy Johnson.

might as well get him some reps at least

Exactly. JJ was actually on a few preseason Heisman watch lists. I think Auburn was ranked #6 preseason when he took over.
I can’t think of a bigger bust at QB in AU history

Coming in a few games is not being a starter where DCs plan for your weakness. Defensive coaches are good.

If not now when? Wait til next year when it will count and he has to settle in.
Do it now, the few snaps he has played he had the yipes but let him get that behind him.
Betcha the receivers stop loafing when the ball is not coming their way. They may actually concentrate on running their routes and catching the ball.
He is a great runner.
If nothing else do it for the fans, we might actually look forward to an exciting offense
Ah hope springs eternal.

Something to consider. Deuce has already played in one game. I know it is far fetched, but say we get a spark and win out and then go to a bowl game? Who starts the bowl game? Or, if we beat Vandy and there is a chance, do you start someone else against Mercer?

He also wasn't good, and throwing him out there vs Vandy and Bama would do him in for good.

I'd want to give him some time. Against good competition. Any wins we get the rest of the way are gravy. We can then see if he can settle in and if there is something in him for the future. Or, if he just sucks bad, the new coach will know they need to be working on getting more QBs.

Agree. The backup QB is always the most popular player, but what little opportunity he was given has removed any excitement that I had. I dont have faith in anything QB until we make offensive changes. Putting him in now could seriouslt change his trajectory going forward. One way to find out, put him in and see if its a positive or negative change

All vikings could swim, cause as children they threw them in the ocean, if they didnt swim.....they werent meant to be a viking anyway.

That’s a pretty fitting analogy for standing behind an offensive line that doesn’t understand snap counts or basic D-line stunts

If Durkin thinks that he has a legit chance to win his way into the HC job then he will obviously try to play to win all 3 of the remaining games. That is the big flaw in this plan.

I don't think it matters who we trot out there at QB. Freeze went out and got these QBs so that should tell you something about how good any of them are.

Got my question answered. Bowl game wouldn’t count. Roll out Deuce.

Sure, but if you are trying to win these last 3 football games you are not going to throw in the true freshman who looked like he couldn't even hold onto the football let alone throw it properly against Ball State.
Again, Durkin is likely trying to play his way into the full-time HC job. You may not care, but he does.

Would like to see Deuce, but meta’s probably right. They are most likely deciding between Ashton and JA right now. Maybe Deuce against Mercer if things are going well.

I don't think JA is a terrible QB. Our OL outside of Lew is Sun Belt level. I just dont see us improving on offensive unless we got some linemen hidden.

not that I disagree, .... but is Deuce gonna' magically improve our OL ?
