The following is the language from his contract with LSU:
quote:
Duty to Mitigate. In the event of termination by LSU without cause, the amount of liquidated damages owed by LSU under this Section shall be reduced and extinguished by and to the extent of any compensation Employee earns, receives, or is entitled to receive for football-related employment, whether intercollegiate or professional, including coaching, administration or media, from any third party from the termination date until LSU’s obligation pursuant to this Section to Employee terminates or ceases to exist. Employee shall exercise due diligence and good faith in seeking qualifying employment so long as the liquidated damage obligation exists. In the event Employee obtains such other employment, Employee must notify LSU and provide documentation reasonably requested by LSU to determine the amount of compensation received by Employee and the amount of offset due to LSU.

So what happens if he just wants to retire altogether?

Yeah. Every coach ever has that in their contract. It’s nothing new. The only time I’ve heard of it not being in a contract is Napier at Florida and that’s because their AD “forgot” to have it put in there. There was a thread about it on here last week and the UF fans were pissed about it

Jimbo didn’t have that or an offset.

Yeah because Ross Bjork is an idiot.
Sorry. 95% of coaching contracts have that in them

WTF is qualifying employment?
According to LSU fans, the job he had is the bestest possible job there is. No other job is its equal. What could possibly meet the standard of "qualifying"?

I wasn’t disagreeing with you. The percentage of contracts that have that with an offset is probably closer to 99%.

Do you think one of those applies?

He should reapply for the LSU job and claim that he sought employment.

And it just so happened that right after getting curb stomped by A&M, yall found out about those items and decided to fire him for those reasons, and not at all to do with how the team is playing?
If LSU as an institution is willing to lie as obfuscate to avoid paying out their contracts, then I think coaches would do well to take any contracts that LSU agree to with a grain of salt.
