at LSU's total expense and then use that 10 mil savings towards his nil budget to build a mega roster.

I think there’s probably language in the buyout that if he got another job, LSU would be off the hook for a percentage of the new contract by the new team. Offsetting costs

I thought I read a new job was a “mitigation” that’d reduce his buyout

Lane Kiffin had that too.

Which is why he worked for Alabama for like almost nothing, just to make USC pay him instead.

Yes and no. It has to be a fair and reasonable contract for the job he is doing. That’s why most coaches getting big buyouts go to being a coordinator or commentator.

Someone could pay him around 2 mill knowing that LSU would be on the hook for the remainder.

That's the point BK gets no salary from new school. LSU keeps paying him 10 mil for next 6 years new school gives bk 10mil for nil budget. Perfect for psu

I would have to see mitigation clause in contract requiring his compensation is (reasonable) but given BK current resume fair value? Very low right now.

BK not necessarily a bad coach just always bad fit for LSU. Some school up north should leverage this.

Not how it works. If he takes a new HC job they have to pay him a reasonable market rate. You can low ball a little and save some, but nonetheless you can’t hire him for $1

Word is Michigan state is possibly wanting to unload Johnathan Smith after this year. His three years have been really bad. He had a good gig out west with Oregon State before the Big ten added Oregon and Washington. This was right after the Spartans fired Mel
Tucker (former Saban assistant) for a phone sex scandal with a sex line lol.

Can’t make this shite up. Anyways, Matt Ishbia is a billionaire well connected to Sparty and they might look at Grindin Brian lol. Good luck with that mess

I think this is called the Charlie Strong clause. When South Florida hired him, tu paid 90+% of his salary for the 3 years he was there. Then USF let him go before the back-loaded portion of his contract kicked-in.

Right but what’s the reasonable market rate, 3 or 4 million for the average P4 job? Just bc some SEC schools are crazy, you still have to look at median of all P4.
