Can we search the classified ads for a defense?

My takes on Saturday’s loss:
Defense is paper thin, and doesn’t play intelligently. DC refuses to adjust when needed, which is how UGA beat us (they made adjustments). I’m not kidding when I say that defensive performance was so bad, I think they were on the take. Even Lane should have had enough sense to at least give blitzing a chance in the 4th quarter. Stockton, while gritty and talented, is not a QB who should be completing 25/31 passes in any game.
Chambliss can’t throw passes accurately past the sticks. He just can’t. OL can’t run-block, and while he’s a fantastic player at times, Lacy lacks the explosiveness needed to make up for such a mediocre OL against good teams. WRs and TEs played a good game, and gave Chambliss plenty of chances.
All of that being said, hotty toddy let’s give ‘em hell.
Positives were the short passing game was unstoppable while it was in rhythm. We weren’t killed by penalties this week, which could have had more to do with the crew. UGA had about the same amount as we did.
frick, that was a frustrating loss.

Correct on all points.
How are you going to stop a run with only 3 linemen? I was asking where the blitz was all day. Chambliss was awesome all day but he can't make a long pass unless the receiver pulls a miracle out of his arse. He just doesn't have the long ball. When we were up by 9, we really should have put Lacy to work. Instead we fell behind and that was the injection that Georgia needed.
We SHOULD win against Oklahoma though.

We absolutely should beat Oklahoma. If we come out flat and lay and egg, that means no playoff for us.

Oklahoma opens as a 4.5 point favorite.
Definitely a win or go home type weekend for us. Let's see if the team is up for it.
If we lose, go ahead and play Simmons the rest of the year to get him experience going into next season.

While he has his limitations, Chambliss was not the reason we lost Saturday. 5 straight TD drives on the road in Athens should always be enough to win. Sure, the offense collapsed at the end, but it’s ludicrous that he was even put in that position. A couple defensive stops and we probably win. UGA RB doesn’t pull that 4th down run out of his arse, and I think we win easily. Pete and the defense have to wear this L.

The loss isn't on Chambliss.
Our defense was on the field for over 37 minutes against a good Georgia offensive unit.

I don't think anybody is blaming Chambliss. But the critique on him is his lack of long ball which has been our hallmark for half a decade. It's on the defense, but when we were up by 9, we should have been running the ball as well. Matter of fact, our only real positive yardage and 1st down in the 4th was a Lacy run.

Agreed. We should be able to run a 6+ minute drive to close the game out.

Ok, let's put it behind us. How do y'all see this game against OU? I haven't really watched them play much this year.

OU has a hell of a defense. Offensively, they have a great QB in Mateer, but he had surgery in his throwing hand (thumb) end of last month.
Gonna be hard to put up points against them, but Mateer getting injured has slowed their offense down.

I think our D plays a much better game (can’t play any worse!). Offense is fine. I feel much more comfortable about this game.

OU has an elite defense. It's one of the best units in the country. Their pass rush is very good (although they have played Auburn and South Carolina, whose offensive lines are abhorrent). They have elite talent all across the defense.
Their schedule has not been brutal. We are more battle tested than they are. They've played two top 25 teams (Michigan and Texas). They beat Michigan and then lost to Texas. Michigan was starting a true freshman QB on the road, and Texas dominated their offensive line.
Conversely, their offense is not good, and we still do not know if Mateer is healthy (he certainly did not play like it against Texas). Their rushing offense is one of the worst in the country.
Like us, they have a good kicker. Their punter is one of the best in the conference, and they use him as a weapon to pin people deep and make them drive the field against their elite defense. However, their return defense has been susceptible.
We are the 15th most penalized team in conference play, and they are the 16th, so expect plenty of flags on Saturday.
I think it is going to be a razor tight game. Protecting the ball is crucial, as is capitalizing on a turnover.

Lol I love your spirit, but what makes you think this?

OU seems like it would be similar to the game against LSU.

This game is huuuuuuge. Because it’s no guarantee we get into the playoffs at 10-2

There's no guarantee we go 10-2 either.

Because I think our D has stepped up at times this year and showed that they can actually play pretty decent football. We shall see.
