I spent some time there in the early 90s.
They are some basketball loving fools. I've never seen so many basketball courts and places to play basketball in my life. It's like when you see an area with a Starbucks on both sides of the street, except it's a basketball court.
It was dangerous even back then.

Well, you're kind of wrong. The sad fact is that in the early 90s, Memphis was one of the fastest growing, and nicer mid-sized cities in the nation. Then they elected Willie Herenton as mayor and it completely fell apart.

Memphis is the ultimate schizo city. It can be both a fantastic place to raise a family and make a living, while also being one of the worst urban areas in the US.

I think all cities have their good and bad places. I can go into Nashville and go to safe places where I have little to nothing to worry about. And I can go into places where I've got a good chance of getting jacked.

I liked BB Kings BBQ in Memphis. Sure had a lot of cops at every intersection on Beale street when a group of us were down there bar hopping.
