Auburn power brokers believe Freeze is close, the record should be 5-1

As Marshall notes, AU's power brokers believe the SEC is the problem, not Freeze. They believe something is afoot behind the scenes in Birmingham. "Third-year Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze still has the support of powerful donors, who are convinced he is rightfully 5-1 right now and are about ready to march on the SEC office. As one said to me, 'Something is rotten in Denmark,'" Marshall wrote. "There is little to no chance that Auburn moves on from Freeze during the season, at least at this point. Every situation is different. If a decision has been made – as seems to be the case with Billy Napier at Florida – that a change has to be made, there is no reason to wait."

When Freeze gets up on the podium and preaches that this team is "close" to executing, the powers that be at Auburn are believing him. They believe the rest of the current campaign will go like the end of the 2024 season, when AU rallied and defeated the TAMU Aggies last November to save Freeze's job, as opposed to the bulk of the last three seasons in conference play.

Auburn's "power brokers" are the primary reason Auburn football has declined. Might as well keep Freeze, I guess. They'd just hire another exactly like him.

Hope they keep those wallets wide open. I doubt many others will.

This. That write up says we are keeping the man unless he doesn't make a bowl maybe.

Don't know who the hell will pay ATL prices to watch out home opener

Freeze can't win big games in the SEC.

He just can't. In every big game, we have been close but let it slip away. Yes, there are bad calls, but theres a massive trend.

Oklahoma, A&M, UGA this year were all the same. Games close enough to win, but Hugh couldn't pull any of them out. I actually argue that Freeze and the team gave up after the blown TD call. We were dominating them all around. We were up 10. It didn't fricking matter if we just kept playing, but the team just gave up instantly.

Same for last year
7 pt loss to Cal, 10pt loss to Arky, 6pt to Oklahoma, 4 to Mizzou,

Year before was the same - Single score losses to Bama & Uga

I think DJ Durkin is doing an excellent job and is putting Freeze in a spot to win with the Defense, Freeze just can't score to fricking win a game.

Birmingham has nothing to do with Thorne throwing pass at the feet of receivers.

Blaming the loss on Oklahoma is one thing but blaming the Georgia loss is another. It's embarrassing.

Freeze pouted a whole crucial second half on offense against Georgia...

I’m fine with Freeze staying as long as he goes back to CEO type that concentrates on recruiting, fires Austin and Thorton, and hires a top OC that handles the QB recruiting.

Thorne isnt JA.

I'll let go of Thorne when yall let go of Thorne. Thorne was a top 6 SEC QB last year. JA has better talent and top 16.

"As long as" If he actually believed in himself he would have already gotten most of those balls rolling in motion. Thornton is still on the roster.

I wouldn’t say the team quit after the TD/ Fumble. I would say it included, the targeting, late hit, review / review. / review / first drive terrible PI call on 3rd down. It was string of FUs that impacted the mental capacity of the fragile mindset, which still isn’t an excuse, but going into and coming out of the half the whole team likely felt like they were being Sabotaged…Again. The main problem right now is we still don’t know how to close. But the feeling is…even if we do, there will be a flag.

Who can he really get? Who would want that job knowing the coach is going to want to run the offense and will most likely be meddling? I think that is the plan if he stays, but it will be an OC in name only and not anyone highly thought of.

We have Mizzou, Arky, Vandy, Kentucky, and Bama left in SEC play. I think the best he can do is 2 of those 5. That would put us most likely at 6-6. I don't know how well the old "We're close!" plays at that point. If they are sold on him, good for them, its their money. But, you most likely will have a fanbase that is just over it and smothered in malaise next year.

This thread is more embarrassing than the 9 championships.

At least we can troll with the later.

It's pretty sad. I've been mad since Saturday, but it has started to settle into more of a melancholy with large dollops of despondency and gloom heaved on top.

IF you are a “top OC” why would you want to work for Freeze?

Name some assistant coaches that went on to greater things after spending time with Freeze.

By big I assume you mean any team other than Arkansas and Kentucky?
