Probably about right. To me, the key for Bama is sustained drives, keeping the Vols offense off the field. I'm hoping Bama has a lopsided time of possession and can just pound the ball on them in the 4th and eat the clock.

Can’t settle for FG’s this week.

quote:Nope. Need to make them pay for having a weak secondary. And hit them with RPOs to keep them honest underneath and buy Ty some time.

their pass D is horrendous and ours is objectively pretty good outside some head scratching plays from Domani Jackson. Ty might need to pass for 500 though. This will likely be a shootout but i dont see how they get more stops than we do. We are a more complete team than them
Their schedule has been pretty weak too, Georgia is the only decent team they have played and they lost

Their pass D is horrendous in terms of yardage, but they rush the passer pretty dang well (26 sacks on the season - #1 in the nation at 4.33 per game), and they are good at getting turnovers. So even with a lot of yards we've got to eliminate negative plays that will stall drives and force FG attempts or punts.
We've got to protect Ty, and if we do that I think we can beat them even with 2 and 3 man routes.

If we can’t improve on what we saw last week at RT it’ll be touch and go at best.

Protection is the key. I think Mizzou coming out with the intention to blitz instead of sit in coverage and rush 4 like I suspected they would actually could be beneficial. Well, it is either a portent of what is to come or a siren to get something fixed quickly.
I am not sure our staff is talking about Carroll making a move in the press this week if they didn't see what happens when we play a team with two or more good edge rushers. You can't help both tackles as much as it was required against Mizzou and have a consistent passing offense. One of the tackles needs to be able to handle their assignments with minimal help from the protection plan.
Proctor is a junior, he is what he is and he is one of our best five. Proctor is powerful blocker and can't really get beat on power moves. He's going to need some chips against the wrong matchups for him. That means the RT needs to handle their strong-side edge matchups or we're in a protection conundrum we saw on Saturday. I've said it before on here: Proctor will play better when the right tackle position is settled. I think that is the key to the whole OL at this juncture. RG could probably be unsettled the rest of the season but RT has got to be figured out.

That's why we need to be chipping with the rbs and tes and then throwing to them behind the defensive ends. Outside of jam none of our rbs are apparently capable of taking a hand off and running with any vision, but we have some good receivers and blockers at rb so I say lean into it. If they are going to try and be aggressive rushing the passer we need to be focused on making them pay for it. Our wrs are much better than their secondary on an individual basis, I feel confident they can win their matchups without too much trickery or flooding numbers into areas

Hope they stay committed to man defense. It will be a feast.
Honestly, on offense, I think Bama needs a big day from the RBs. Don't need big gains. Just enough to stay ahead on downs to provide options and convert on short. Moreover, need them to improve in pass protection, they have struggled picking up their blocks all year. With Jam likely out, need to design perimeter plays to get them the ball off the edges. There won't be a lot between the tackles. Ty will have to make some smart run decisions as well.
Going to be a nail biter I fear.
Having watched the last couple of UTk games. Their offense is explosive and balanced. But, Bama matches up better against them than Vandy and Mizzou Os IMO

We need RBs that can take a play that is blocked for a 3 yard gain and turn it into a 5 yard gain. We know Jam can do that. Gotta get it from some of these other guys. Show us something! Make a man miss. Run somebody over.
