I’m guessing that the CBS executives are really sick they didn’t find a way to hold on to the SEC contract.

Where's all the big bad Ohio State fans? Get in here !

How did Michigan/USC not do better than that? It was a busy sports day, but that’s got to be a bigger game for NBC.

Exactly what I thought!

Viewership for college ball is always gonna be bigger south of the Mason Dixon line. This isn’t exactly breaking news. Ohio has pro franchises that are dumpster fires but that still is where the bread is buttered. I agree that CBS fricked up by not extending the SEC.
Indiana is not exactly a hotbed of college football. Cigaretti got there a year ago. Oregon has like 20 people who live there.

Michigan vs USC would be a fantastic Rose Bowl. When both teams are playing in the same conference though and it’s a regular season game then it’s just not that exciting.

ABC has improved. But on top of lower ratings, it strike’s me that CBS/NBC put more into their broadcasts. So they’re spending more for less.

Yeah the Mich-USC ratings are bad, relatively-speaking.
I can only speak for myself, but I was so caught up in the SEC games Saturday night that I actually forgot about that USC game.
It’s nonetheless still surprising, cause that’s a relatively “sexy” matchup

Seems like it should be a bigger draw than ohio state/Illinois though.
Maybe it was the Cubs game? Lots of Michigan alums in Chicago.

I will say: it was a gorgeous day in LA. And the game was on at the prettiest time of day. I wouldn’t have been home but for being sick.
That’s a problem with LA as a market.

Well people have heard of Ohio St vs Illinois. It’s familiar even if Ohio St does win most every year. Big 10 fans would rather see a West Coast team in the Rose Bowl representing the Pac 12 instead of the middle of the year in the same conference.

I wonder if USC has the pull they used to. It appears not these past few years.

During the Carroll run, they were huge. It was LA’s pro football team (as it turns out, more or less literally). Those players were stars. Household names around the city. That has definitely changed.

CBS has the sads.
They only had one SEC game each weekend, except for the single double header each season.

There are so many good SEC games now. Nobody is watching USC-Michigan. I forgot that was on too

I fault CBS and the SEC for screwing the pooch on this deal. CBS still does the best production in the business. Both sides should have made it work. Period.

This. Los Angeles is a hotbed for anything but television. Which is ironic, since that’s the home of sitcoms and serials. Way too many activities going on. Nice place if you can handle the screwed up politics and the fires. Beautiful landscape out there though
