The sport has gotten too big and the money too much to have weekend warriors masquerading as competent officials. Officiating all sports has been bad but gotten progressively worse as time goes on. We need the following:

- Hire full-time officials (for the big 3 sports), train them in all 3 sports.
- Implement the transparent review process like the ACC has done this season
- Hold officials accountable for errors on their part including suspension of duties and a probationary period
- Officials should never officiate a game for their alma mater (Sorry Bama)
- Review officials should be able to overrule more calls/non-calls (i.e. If the replay shows an obvious penalty that wasn't called) - but only this if we implement the transparent review

This has been a rule for years skippy. The best crew in the league is David Smith's crew and we can't ever get that crew because he went to BAMA.

His crew gets picked pretty much every year to do playoff games. Before the playoffs they did BCS games or the major bowls.

So pay them a full time annual salary for working 12-14 days a year.

Are you fricking high?

It should be criminal that a billion dollar industry still operates one of its most important if not most important institutions as if it’s still 1919

So you going to tell SEC refs they have to either give up their full-time occupations or be fired?

And how much are you going to pay refs to only be refs for SEC football?

Whether it has or hasn't, tell us the last Alabama game that David Smith worked.

Go ahead. We'll wait.

Let me ask you a question. How much more profitable is the NFL than college football?

NFL teams each received $432 million in revenue sharing last year.

The SEC shared $808 million, total.

Guess how much the cheapest ticket to see that stunning display of officiating in auburn last weekend cost?

400$

To have such inept essentially keepers of such an expensive and valuable product is wrong merely from an economic and consumer perspective

Pay players $40M a year, but can't afford to pay refs $200K? Well, looks like they already make pretty good money.

quote:

NFL referees make an average of about $205,000 per season, with a wide salary range based on experience, from around $100,000 for entry-level officials to over $250,000 for those with 8+ years of experience. In addition to their annual salary, they can receive bonuses for playoff and Super Bowl games, with the Super Bowl bonus reportedly between $30,000 and $50,000.

full-time refs with more training isn't going to fix corruption.

That's why we need the ACC transparency thing and the performance reviews.

Now throw in ticket sales, merchandise, corporate sponsorships, and concessions.

The SEC has the money.

The most critical need is fulltime continual vetting of all league executives and referees for gambling. It's far too easy for all of us to gamble, and some calls definitely give off He bet on this game vibes. And reviews like Auburn's TD give off Checked up the command line and he said Georgia needs to go to the playoff vibes.
