The SEC boasts half of the 10 largest stadiums in the world

I was perusing Landmass' excellent thread about UNC's small football stadium, and it reminded me that we as fans get to regularly visit some of the largest around but probably don't really think about it much.
I guess I haven't looked at the overall list in a while, but the SEC now has five of the top 10 stadiums by capacity on the entire planet.

I would argue that Tennessee has probably never had 100k people actually attend a game in Neyland. Their seats are so small and their fans are so large, that I'm sure many of them have to purchase two tickets.

The largest single-event attendance at Neyland Stadium was 109,061 fans on September 18, 2004, during a Tennessee Volunteers football game against the Florida Gators. This record crowd watched the Volunteers win the game 30-28.

The loudest game in college football history occurred on November 18, 2023, at Tennessee's Neyland Stadium, reaching a record-breaking 137 decibels during the game against Georgia. This event surpassed previous records, including the 133.6 decibels recorded at Washington's Husky Stadium in 2019 and the ~133 decibels at LSU's Tiger Stadium and South Carolina's Williams-Brice Stadium at different points.

I actually sat across the stairs from them at a UF game, in Gainesville, three rows from the sun. I don't have the pic anymore, but they are real.

Sit down and shut the frick up.
Neyland reduced their capacity from 108,000+ to it's current capacity.
Tennessee has had more people for a spring game than Ole Miss has for a regular season SEC game.

How many LSU fans leave early if the games get to the non competitive point in the second quarter? Thats always been a knock on them but I thought that was only day games

The last time Tennessee was in Dead Valley, even the vendors left. Josh had to get Vol walk ons to man the concession stands and serve the UT fans.

I think we all probably have at some point, as the trend is to remove regular seats for the unwashed masses and replace them with "premium experience" areas like loge seating, luxury boxes, etc.

There’s no way crowds are louder now than in the 90s.
Academic success has followed football success for the SEC big schools. The new crop of students statistically have much higher entry test scores, consume less alcohol, have less sex, have played less sports, and get arrested less. On top of that, student seating is being reduced everywhere to make more room for alumni and luxury suites. Outside of some stadiums now having overhangs to redirect sound back into the stadium, there’s no reason for anything to be louder.
Measuring decibels at stadiums is very inexact and anything claiming to have broken some record in the last couple seasons is highly suspect.

I lost my perfect seats I had for years to "premium seating". I still have good seats, but not like they were.
Old boy that had the seats beside mine, has been a season ticket holder since 1962. Lost his seats he had in the same place for years. That was about 4 years ago. I don't know if the old guy still comes. He was in his very late 80s-early 90s when they took our seats..
When they installed the West and East Club seating. There were people who had the same seats for 50 years get booted.
It took them a good 5 years to get the Club seats filled. $50,000 one time donation and $6000 per seat per year.
6 games...$6000 a seat.
frick the fans, corporate donors are in the majority of those seats.

and I'm not buying Husky Stadium is that loud.... It is loud, and I'm sure those roof structures hold the noise in, but it seats only 70K and the ends are pretty open.
