Liberty is his 5th stop as a HC. He’s taken a step up with every stop, and is 48. Looks like a decent trajectory?

Because he has taken Liberty from 13-1 to 2-4.

It is really hard to evaluate coaches at smaller programs these days without knowing the programs commitment to NIL.

At one time Liberty had some pretty good players. They may now be getting plucked by bigger schools with deeper pockets.

His results at Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina were very impressive.

There’s 2 programs he would like to run. Tennessee and Virginia Tech. His roots are in Appalachia. I met the man when he was coaching Charleston Southern. He WON at CHARLESTON SOUTHERN. Let that sink in. Just for curiosity’s sake, if you’re ever driving to Charleston on I-26, take a 3 minute detour off the US Route 78 exit. CSU is right off the interstate. Take a look at the facilities he had to work with. There are high schools with better stadiums AND football budgets. I thought VA Tech would grab him, but I guess they were snobbish about bringing him over from Liberty.

Vandy plucked their C Jordan White, and he's been great.

I'm sure he's lost some other important pieces.

Aside from Liberty, he's spent the lion's share of his career in South Carolina.

There were a lot of Gamecocks who wanted him when he was at Coastal, after Muschamp was fired. Tanner was all-in on Shane, and I'm not sure he even interviewed Chadwell.

The bloom is off his rose a bit. He was very successful in OG College Football. Not sure what he'd look like in CFB 2.0. Maybe he needs more resources? Not sure, but his Liberty tenure has left something to be desired.

but that was after he took them from 8-5 to 13-1 first

granted he’s more or less been a .500 HC since then, and its difficult to imagine what he could do with a P4 budget and resources

personally i think he’s a vastly superior coach to his predecessor at Liberty

Liberty’s favorite “sport” is political grandstanding and owning the libs first and foremost. Once Freezus left, they started to prioritize rallying against hookers and atheists. Sort of strange, being all hypocritical and what not
