After more than a half-century without a real title*, Auburn finally achieved another one with one of the most lightning-in-a-bottle seasons in college football history. The Tigers had gone just 13-12 in their two previous seasons, and they would go 11-14 over the next two, but in between they played 14 games with Cam Newton at quarterback and won all of them, seven by just one score. It was one of the more clutch runs we'll ever see; teams on these types of runs usually falter well before the national title game, but Newton's Tigers did not.

(* Yes, Auburn claims four titles from between 1957 and 2010, but that doesn't mean I have to acknowledge them as legitimate.)

Auburn hasn’t had a winning record since 2020 and yet their Title count continues to grow

Fixed. AU fans are the only ones that give any credence to those whatsoever.

Auburn should have claimed '83 and '04 when they happened.

The same people who annointed arch manning are the same ones whose nuts you mouth breathers licked for 100 years like they know a damn thing about college football. Our ad is the worst in America and some are questionable but the one good he's ever done in his life is acknowledge 13, 83, and 04

Which, predictably, even national sports journalists are mocking.

Congratulations

They deserve to be mocked and made fun of of.

What a joke of a program.

9 weeks ranked #1 in the AP poll and 9 national titles.

I admire Auburn's efficiency.

Making up titles out of thin air is serious little brother behavior.

Bams may want to sit this one out. The rest of you, pile on though.

Nahh. We can just go with the AP , UPI/Coaches polls, and BCS polls Still more than any other team in the nation. You know, the bona fide polls that sports writers don’t mock.

Then do that. No one denies you are the most accomplished program in the country. That's what makes the claiming of the other championships even worse.

Search my posts and you will find some of that, though I have also counted the pre 1936 titles in threads where that context was relevant. In fact, I would be good with starting at 1970 AP and UPI/Coaches poll and BCS since, before that, some of the best players couldn’t even play on some teams. Some Alabama and SEC fans might want to kick my arse but who’s to say some of those Eddie Robinson Grambling teams weren’t best.

Exactly. That’s what made 2010 magical.

Watching a team that hadn’t won a title in 50 years win it all. The fact that they didn’t win any national title during that span just made it cool for neutral fans to watch.

But they didn't, so we get to mock them.
