Chicken told me he couldn’t afford to pay me by the word anymore. He advised me, “Pictures over syllables with this audience”, so I’ll try to be more efficient moving forward.

Week 5

(A&M Fans Everywhere)

‘It’s October. The peaks are even higher this year. We should proceed cautiously…

Sarge, I think things are different this year. That shiny roller coaster doesn’t reflect reality. We look really good for not having played anyone yet besides Notre Dame.

Hell, somebody give me the pimp stick and throw on the Vandy music…’

(meanwhile - everyone else on the rant)

Bring on the Hate…

‘I think now is the perfect time for the Longhorns to insert Kenny’s brother into the lineup, Chad Powers.’

‘Did you see where Peyton and Eli released a new statement to TMZ? Apparently, Arch is adopted.’

‘I’m hearing rumors that North Carolina is thinking about trying to lure Mack Brown out of retirement in order to establish some leadership as well as to stabilize and turn around the program.’

‘I was having a spirited conversation with coach Sark on the merits of a fullback in a modern day offense, and our heated discussion continued into the public restroom. After he made his way to a urinal to relieve himself, I said to him, “You know that’s a felony, right?” He looked at me like I was crazy saying, “What in the hell are you talking about?” I replied, “A grown man holding a little boys dick.” Everyone else laughed, he won’t speak with me now, but I did win the argument.’

‘Kentucky, it’s been a tough year so far. 0-3 in the SEC. The offense is struggling. The defense is struggling, but at least Bill Belichick isn’t your coach.’

‘I thought he was making plenty from NIL, but I’m pretty sure Arch Manning misunderstood the coaches when he was told “The team will pay if you continue to throw interceptions.”’

‘What is more SEC than Paul Finebaum running for senate in Alabama?’

‘Tennessee, I take full responsibility. I jinxed UCLA too hard, so blame their sole win of the season on me, but mostly on those Pedo’s from Penn State. Seriously, who cheers for the success of Pedo’s besides Ted Cruz?

I’m not watching a game with a 46.5 point spread unless it’s my team. Nice win

We have a new graduate to the playoff tier.

The monkey is off their back. The winning streak squashed, but let’s take a second to reflect on the moment. The fact that we are even discussing these tells you this is a different Vandy. Vandy is vastly improved and not the pushover they have been. It just makes the conference better.

The time of possession was a giant factor that Bama swung in their favor nearly controlling the ball for 2/3 of the game. If Pavia doesn’t have the ball, he can’t score. This certainly pressured Vandy as their touches became very precious.

Bama did their jobs and came away with the win, but it was a close, hard fought game. Ty Simpson continues to look great and keeping himself in the Heisman conversation.

The defense was able to get the last laugh on Pavia, but they had to earn it. Bama hunkered down, got the win, and is rewarded by playing an undefeated Missouri on the road next. Keep winning and control your destiny.

This game was extremely boring if you weren’t paying attention. How do you stop an Art Briles’ offense? Keep it off the field, and that is mostly what happened. Credit the A&M offense for playing complimentary ball by rushing for over 300. Not only was it effective offensively, it drained the clock and State of additional opportunities. The defense once again more than pulled their end of the bargain.

The stat of the game: 38 minutes and 17 seconds. That is the time A&M held the ball. To put this in perspective, State possessed the ball for roughly 1/3 of the game compared to A&M’s 2/3. That is complementary possession ball on A&M’s part. The State offense had limited opportunities, and the State defense was worn down by playing 2/3rds of the game. It really paid off for the Aggies in the second half.

The defense has played lights out two weeks in a row allowing a single 3rd down conversion over those two weeks. This week, State was held to 3 points before a late game explosive play added another 6 points.

My disappointment in the offense has been an optical illusion. After the Notre Dame game, I was expecting an explosive offense that could score on any play, but the last two games against Auburn and State didn’t feel like they met expectations. This offense can grind and this offense can explode, but it appears the coaches have chosen to grind the last two games. The grind keeps the other teams offense off the field while eating up time of possession, and when A&M is behind, expect the explosive offense. It’s certainly nice to be able to win in multiple ways, so consider this another feather in the cap.

2nd half adjustments have been key and will continue to be key. We have looked better in each second half. This has been night and day when you compare Jimbo to Elko. Jimbo wanted to out talent you where big headed Elko wants to out think other teams. It’s hard to do in each game (as opposing coaches are trying to do the same thing), but I have liked what I have seen so far.

The penalties are still a problem, but it was a night and day difference between the first half (~7) and the second half (~2). Let’s see how they follow up this performance to determine if real progress is being made.

The defense is smothering. I’ve waited for stars to emerge (and there are several), but I’m coming around to the fact these guys just play well together as a group. The rush and coverage are seamless and in sync. Same with the run. I’m sure there will be breakdowns and frustration ahead, but the synergy this defense plays with has been great.

Unfortunately, I only have 1 playoff caliber win for A&M. They need another to advance to the playoff tier.

Florida will pose a great test. They appeared to figure things out which should be concerning for the rest of their opponents after how they finished last season.

The monkey is off Bama’s back. The winning streak squashed, but let’s take a second to reflect on the moment how far Vandy has come. Vandy has crawled out of the basement as is standing on their own two feet. They didn’t win, but they brought the fight to the tide, fought hard, and were in the game on the road. I respect the fact they elevated their game and hope they continue progressing into the future. It just makes the conference better.

I thought the Commodores had the edge in the rushing attack, but Bama’s tough D neutralized it for the most part. The two turnovers were very impactful for Vandy and likely the difference in the game. They were knocking on the door, but just couldn’t muster the plays to complete the upset.

Vandy will continue to be a factor, but will they be able to raise their prospects come postseason?

After a strong first 1/3 to the year, you face off against Bama to start the second third of the year. Plenty of opportunities on your remaining schedule, but this first one looms large. Are you sinking or swimming? let’s see what you are made of.

The problem for Missouri is they haven’t had any playoff caliber wins thus far in the season. Their first opportunity is Saturday, so let’s see where y’all stand.

Alright, who didn’t have “Florida playing Possum until week 6” on their bingo card? I know I did - Haha. I knew you would come up for air eventually ridding yourselves of the Hall of Shame, Florida

I’m not sure what to say. Just last week, I was wondering how Florida looks nothing like last years offense, and then all of a sudden they do. Where the hell has this been? The only noticeable difference I saw was Dallas Wilson but he wasn’t there last year. Everything began working: the rushing game came alive, Wilson looked excellent snagging balls, this offense was sustaining drives, Lagway cleared his head and began executing, and they were putting points on the board. This feels like they figured things out vs Texas having an off week.

The defense continues to be great and with the offense getting out of neutral, let’s see what this team can do in the second half of the year.

Florida, why couldn’t y’all have figured this out in two or three weeks. Why damn it? Haha. See y’all next week in College Station and good luck.

I think Kentucky would beat a lot of teams if they weren’t in the SEC, but it’s going to be a tough year for them.

Hate to see y’all lose any more starters but especially Fluff. Fluff has been a fun watch this year, so hopefully he has a speedy return. I had this game being much closer, but I think the injuries State has incurred really affected their ability to compete.

I feared that 4th and goal stop created huge momentum for State, but State was never able to build off it. The defense essentially held A&M to 7 points for nearly 3/4 of the game. The defense played extremely well but didn’t get enough support from their offense. The offense just never got going, and I think A&M gets a lot of credit here. When State had the ball, they couldn’t move the ball. When they didn’t have the ball, the A&M offense was playing keep away.

My biggest concern for State is fan’s getting obsessed with wins and losses and missing how great this turnaround has been. Lebby can coach. It’s becoming apparent that one of State’s biggest weaknesses is depth. Unfortunately, the last several games have really eaten into that depth which could cause the rest of the season to be viewed differently. I hope that doesn’t happen as State has been very competitive in all their games and are winning more than they lose. Hopefully, the bye week allows them to get healthy and get back in the hunt.

They may not have shined this week, but I like the way State plays on both sides of the ball this year.

Hall of Shame

At the end of the year, this will be the worst 3-4 teams. For now, it will be for public shaming

#9 Texas (3-2, SEC 0-1, P4: 0-2, Non-P4: 3-0, AP: +1)
Opponent: @ Florida (2-3) (P4), Line: -4.5 (-12.5)
Score: 21-29

Prior Week: Bye Week
Weekly Status: Bad P4 Loss (Failed to Meet Expectations)

This team has 99 problems and a bitch ain’t one.

Oh boy! Where do I start? We are headed into week 7 on the season, and Texas has yet to defeat a P4 opponent after starting the year at #1. Heading into the game, the question was whether the offense would figure things out, but leaving the game, that question remained as well as what happened to the defense?

To be fair, Florida has looked horrendous on offense up until this game, but it finally clicked for Florida. They ran the ball consistently, Wilson gave them a threat with the pass, and the offense developed a rhythm they haven’t had all year. The point here is if Florida can figure out their offense, why can’t Texas? Arch showed some sparks, but he needs to be more consistent. The same can be said for the offensive line. The time is now to get things working. It will only get more difficult from here.

The defense was the bigger shock in this game giving up 457 yards to Florida. I’ve said this many times, “One game does not make a pattern.” And it doesn’t, but for a bad offense to find its footing is certainly a concern. Coaches will identify holes in the defense and continue to attack, so we will find out pretty quickly if Florida found something in the Texas defense or if Florida out executed them this week - neither of which is favorable toward Texas. Hopefully, the defense had a bad game and finds its footing again this coming week.

My biggest concern for the Longhorns is offensive coaching. How did they let this happen? They had to know what Arch brought to the table. I have to ask the question. Is Arch starting because he is the best option, or is he starting because of NIL and external hype? We haven’t really seen the backup at this point, so only the coaches know for sure, but if he is the best option, I’m concerned for talent evaluation. A strong QB drives Sark’s offense, and when he doesn’t have that, they haven’t looked very good so far this season.

They also had to have known what they had in the offensive line. They haven’t gelled as an offense after 6 weeks. Get something going. The rushing game doesn’t even look like it is trying, and focus on the short game before longer patterns until the oline can cover longer. And I would hate for Arch to get his feelings hurt, but let’s see what the backup can do. Unless Sark is willing to throw the entire year away, let’s see what others can do to get this thing moving in a positive direction. If Sark hitches his wagon to Arch and Arch never performs, Sark will be the one taking the heat - not Arch.

The good news is Texas can still figure it out like Florida did, but as each weak passes, figuring it out seems less likely.

Outside the SEC

Penn State - the Pedos now become the long running joke after getting beat by the joke of a UCLA program. Please let them in the playoffs so the humiliation can continue.

Texas Tech took down an undefeated Houston squad and looks poised to win the Big 12 title. There is still a lot of football to be played, but they may have the easiest path to the playoffs. I don’t know how they will fare against top end teams, and I don’t believe there are any of those teams in their conference,

Miami is 5-0 and has zero ranked teams remaining on the schedule. They will have to screw up epically to not make it into the playoffs at this point.

Extremely talented, but his attitude was just too much to deal with in the locker room. Hope the change in scenery helped changed his behavior/attitude.

That’s a shame to hear, but A&M has had their share of head cases too. It happens. Appreciate the feedback.
