Early thoughts on Bama @ Mizzou

Mizzou fans have been talking a lot of shite already which is interesting. I'm wondering: Is Mizzou really that good?
Vegas has Alabama only -2.5 which feels like pure charity for Mizzou fans who need something to believe in before reality sets in.
Every real model (Sagarin, FPI, etc.) has Bama by around 8 on a neutral field which works out to about 6 in Columbia. That's still off a bit.
Looking at their resume because it doesn't exactly scream “top 10 material.”
Schedule so far:
Central Arkansas
Kansas (their second best win)
Louisiana
South Carolina (their best win)
UMass
This is nothing more than a glorified spring schedule. So this weekend is really their second real game if we’re being generous and counting Kansas.
There should be no surprise then that their offense looks elite against these kind of teams. But what happens when they go up against a defense that kept Pavia and Georgia in check?
Bama’s already battle-tested. Mizzou hasn’t played a team like Bama just yet.
So I think the question really is "Are they just regular Mizzou again?"
Anyways, if you're betting, you would be smart to take Bama and the points. I think reality comes for Mizzou this Saturday.

How does a team start the season with six straight home games? We get a total of six home games all of next season because of that England game shite.

8 of their first 10 will be home games.

Same Mizzou they have been for years. They never really beat anyone good, but the schedule is so soft the win totals are inflated. Kudos to Drinkwitz and the AD for manipulating Mizzou fans into thinking they are contenders. Drink does do a good job of not getting upset by the UMASS types.

I'm with you at least compared to the rest of the games on this weekend.

SP+ predicts Mizzou to win 26-24. Your argument of Mizzou not being tested yet could also be flipped to say that Bama is on week 3 of 4 straight ranked matchups. Mizzou is coming off UMass and a bye week - they should be fresher than Bama.

That's possible but at the same it could also be said that Bama will be a lot more ready.

This isn't the same Old Mizzou that Alabama played in the past. The line tells a different story. This is the first time in a long time that the line has been this close when Mizzou is playing Alabama.

Maybe not but I still don't see a great team just yet.

Bama seems to be finding their stride
Mizzou really hasn't played anyone but is coming off a bye week
Game at Mizzou, if they continue to run the ball like they have Mizzou can hang around
Games get kind of crazy in that stadium but I like Bama to take care of business as Simpson makes plays in the 4th quarter to pull away

Against their competition, mizzou has put up lotta yards and have been well balanced. That schedule to date is ranked 109. Bama's is 3

Kind of nervous about this one. It feels like this game is setting up very similar to the way the Vandy game did last year - 11:00 kick on the road against a lesser-name opponent who hasn't played anyone but might be better than usual.
Posted on 10/6/25 at 2:22 pm to TheTideMustRoll
I think it will be a close game for sure. Probably closer than Vandy who knows? But I don't Mizzou is elite by any stretch.

The great Dynasty of Alabama football could never lose to Mizzou.

bama should cruise to victory. might as well be a bye week for the crimson tide
Posted on 10/6/25 at 2:39 pm to theballguy
The game should be cancelled.

Mizzou is 26-5 since 2023 (12-5 in conference play). The Tigers have beaten some very good teams, including Tennessee and Ohio State. True, the non-conference schedule has been soft. But outside of Bama and Georgia (who have blasted everyone in the conference), Mizzou has been very good.
I think it's interesting that it's LSU fans always making this claim when Mizzou is 2-2 against LSU and our recent games have been extremely close (49-39 LSU in 2023, 45-41 Mizzou in 2020). I don't see Georgia or Alabama fans posting all this bullshite about Mizzou, even though those are the two SEC schools that have completely dominated us.

I think it'll be a good game, but Bama will pull away in the 4th quarter. That's how all these types of games seem to go with Mizzou. Been that way for years.

Sounds like Mizzou and LSU are in the beginning stages of a future rivalry
