Biggest deficiency this season. OL or DBs?

I think there's a good argument that the lack of play from our DBs may be more serious than our OL play. IMHO it just seems there's receivers running free in our secondary almost every play and yards there for any QB who has the accuracy to make the throws. Both UT and Bama played pitch and catch all game. Even against KY there were open receivers running free. We were lucky their QB wasn't competent enough to get the ball to them. That was something I didn't have on my Bingo card going into the season.

I'm just looking around on other forums and stuff and see all of these threads where people are really impressed with our OL and how it has overcome adversity with all of the injuries and everything and the young players are stepping up, etc. But this forum seems to be the only one, with the exception of a very few posters, where the OL seems to continually be crucified. Why is that?

Because we have eyes
The Oline aren't being crucified, Searels is because he sucks.
We are young, less talented than recent years past and we are very injured.
Technically, its NOT their fault, its coaches. It is what it is...
What I think everyone is shocked about is with all our DB talent / 5 stars and Kirby as a DB specialist, how we can be so awful and we aren't starting any freshmen. So, why is that ?

Or maybe its because you are arrogant and think you know more than everyone else and actually have no football IQ...is that possible?

These 2 very special Dawg fans are just looking to get in a back-and-forth with somebody and actively seeking it out. Don't take the cheese.
...Or maybe they're the same person and trying to outflank you with contstantly negative drivel.

Even with your low IQ you would think you could see it too

Says the person who said you can't bet against your team in order to make money.

The OL play Saturday was good. Other than a few bad misses in the Alabama game the OL has given the QB and the RBs good blocking. They are improving with each game.
The DBs were a real problem in the last two games but improved in the second half of the Alabama game. The Ole Miss game will tell the tale on how much they have improved overall.

I have achieved a sense of enlightenment and am now impervious to your constant negative bullshite and 4th grade understanding of football. It's zen like. Feel free to keep on trying, but I promise you that that shite doesn't work on me anymore!

Not one of the options you listed, but PASS RUSH. o line has been ok. Not great but ok. Lots of injuries. Db hasn’t been good but it’s hard to be good when you’re covering guys for 4 plus seconds. Hell. CJ Allen’s sack on Saturday was after Boley had 7 seconds to survey then break the pocket. They go hand in hand but I blame the lack of pass rush more than I blame the DBs.

Out of curiosity, what has been the avg time of release for each QB we played?

After you asked, I wondered if this data is available so I asked Copilot:
==================================================
Is there any data available for the average release time of opposing QBs vs Georgia?
There is currently no publicly available data specifically tracking the average release time of opposing quarterbacks against Georgia’s defense in the 2025 season. This metric is typically captured at the NFL level via Next Gen Stats, but not consistently reported for college teams.
?? Why This Data Is Rare in College Football
- Release time (how quickly a QB throws after the snap) is a Next Gen metric tracked using RFID chips and advanced video analysis—tools not widely used across NCAA programs.
- College analytics focus more on pressures, hurries, sacks, and completion rates than granular timing data.
- Georgia’s defensive scheme often emphasizes coverage and containment, which can influence QB behavior, but not always in ways captured by release time.
What is available is sacks. We are currently well below average in sacks compared to other SEC teams:
Alabama - 11
LSU - 10
Texas A&M - 9
Florida - 7
Georgia - 4

The OL aren't word beaters, but they aren't bad either. They're fourth in the conference in rushing. Some people like to bitch like women regardless.

Palmer on Saturday made a comment about this and said our defensive front was built to eat up blocks, not create havoc. I have a feeling that we just don't have elite guys that can get to the QB in a hurry.

I honestly haven’t paid enough attention this season. Do we have a zero tech or 1-tech that requires a double team?
Posted on 10/6/25 at 1:57 pm to SemperFiDawg
DB issue is because of lack of pass rush. Can't expect DBs to cover for 5 seconds on every snap.

We've signed at least 5 designated lard asses in the last 3 recruiting cycles, but none of them have cracked the rotation and/or transferred out.
Between recruiting whiffs and the way that Davin Bellamy was describing our D line play after the Alabama game, the wrong Georgia assistant coaches might be getting the most scrutiny.

The O-Line has been statistically better in every category by a mile. The DB’s however are a huge mystery. I can’t come up with a football argument other than our DB coach is from USC and their DB’s/Defense was/is fricking awful. So maybe that’s why our DB’s looked lost.

It’s been 5 games man. I gave it some time but we have like 7 sacks as a team through 300 minutes of football. Sure. The other team runs quick screens and short slants and this and that. Guess what. They do that stuff to the other teams as well that have better pass rushes and they get sacked. I’m not asking for 5 per game, but averaging 1.4 per game isn’t cutting it. There might be someplace that tracks the average time per release that you want but I guarantee you the difference (if there is one) doesn’t justify 7 sacks through 5 games. I’ve said it before. It’s a philosophy problem. We still defend teams like it’s 2010 so we recruit guys who run stuff better than they pass rush. And we do things like playing our best pass rusher on the team (Chris Cole) as a coverage guy. Maybe the coaches knew it wouldn’t matter much against Kentucky so they’re doing the whole treat the easy game as practice thing but that doesn’t explain the lack of rush against UT and Bama.

I have pretty good football IQ so no, its not possible.
Also, I understand the game, the data and problems. I don't have to be an X's and O's genius to do that. I can also adjust my perception when presented with new data.
I.E. Last year I said Frazier should be the featured back, this year, he has been a liability and not running the same. Bowens should be featured. See how I adjusted and not just Disney because that was my original view.
One more example: I said on here that we couldn't beat Bama with Stetson nor a Natty because he lost each time, threw multiple INT's. But he ended up beating them. And now I believe he is the best QB to ever come out of GA.
What is your excuse ?
