I've seen several of these and I could totally live that lifestyle. I think the only issue to me would be being too far away from medical care.

Interesting how he installed the big, flat rock on the top of his chimney. Clever.

That's a lot of open flames in a wood/grass structure at the end of the video. Not clever.

not that same house

There's something about these videos that make my skepticism tingle.

I just feel like there's a crew with equipment and materials right behind the camera (you can usually tell by the saw cuts, or generally how square things are).

Some folks can actually pull this primitive stuff off, though, and it's amazing when they do.

Correct response!

When my old man sold the farm in the 1970's, they bought a ranch in town for the last few years of his life. As least I was smart enough to ask why.

No Stairs
Close to your doctors and the hospitals they affiliate with.

Now that I am old as dust, I am thankful I took his 2 answers to heart.

Very cool. My back hurts now.

Not sure how long that untreated wood will last

I wonder who held the camera? I don't think it was one of the dogs.

he burned the ends going into the ground, I guess to petrify in some manner

I know if you have a nice chunk of wood cut straight from a tree and not treated, if you set it on you concrete patio under a roof for instance, it does not rot IMO (keeping it dry)

ETA: a couple foot clean cut (on both sides) stump that serves as a patio table

Yeah a big stump would probably last an eternity unweathered. Just not sure about some of those smaller logs. Also some are going to be exposed to temperature swings and high humidity (if the house is often lived in).

Although if you did all this by hand, you probably aren’t concerned about having to replace some wood eventually

Noticed that, so he definitely took it into consideration, but when I’ve seen that done they scorch they usually scorch the whole log
