That's why GameDay is coming to Tuscaloosa next week. We're secretly using McAfee's kicking contest to find a new kicker

He struck it - seemingly - with the arch of his foot rather than his toes.

Looked like he slipped, so at least there was some sort of excuse for it.

Pappanastos missed chip shot to win a natty is still the GOAT of bad kicks for me though.

This was a known weakness. He’s performed better than expected so far this season. Our punter is not up to standard either. I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the arse.
But yeah, it was pretty bad. I think it ended up being further away after the kick than it was before.

I’m not interested in recruiting kickers anymore.

But the best available proven small school kicker and call it a day.

It may have been 30 yards wide

I keep asking this but never get an answer. What happened to the Lou Groza winner from Miami of Ohio? Is he just not any good?

Punting has been at least adequate, if not good. Blake Doud has been more than serviceable. Last night, he had a 39.6 avg, which is so so. I seem to recall for the Wisconsin game he had something like a 45 yd avg, which is good. He also has good hang time, which isn't really reflected in the stats.

That missed FG by Talty was beyond ugly. It looked like something some 8th grader kicked. Hopefully that was an aberration. Normally, he's good up to about a 50 yarder.

Nah man, the punters avg is boosted on rolls. And all of them have went our way. If he is ultra conservative doing that, cool. But that never been the recipe for good punting. I’m rooting for him tho. He’s what we have.

His kicks have looked good until then, so hope it’s an anomaly. That was worse than the Pappanastos duck hook.

It’s ok. The frat boy sitting in front of me bet the Georgia frat that he wouldn’t miss. I told him not to do it, karma, kick went crazy wide. Kicking is back to normal this week.

Frankly, I don’t care if all of Doud’s punts go 20 yds but bounce another 20+ yds and there’s no return.

That attempt made the kick near the end of the 2017 NC vs UGA actually look close.

One thing working against Talty was it was a nasty angle for a right footed kicker. I think he overcompensated for the angle and hit it completely wrong. He was talking to the holder rather animatedly coming off the field so maybe something threw him off. It was one kick, give him a pass, he’s been good so far. Just don’t make that a habit.

That’s close to what has been happening. And if he can keep it up, good on him. I like it. But if somebody puts in a short returner…

I went back and watched the kick. I used to be a kicker. I’m almost positive when he set his plant foot he slipped which made him slide forward and shank it.
