Is Sunbelt Billy still coaching at UF after Miami crushes them this Saturday?

I kinda doubt it. What say you?

PS - I'm shocked the great UL-L pretender is still there after the LSU game.

I hope they whoop Miami's arse. We want Billy around for a while.

not sure it does any good to fire him with this upcoming stretch of games
let him get through that and you can make a decision next bye week

coaches are gonna get fired early with NIL and portal in play, the sooner you get a coach you have the ability to retain players you may want to keep around

Saw a stat on X that seems unreal

Sunbelt Billy would have to win 28 consecutive games to have the winning percentage that got Dan Mullen fired from Florida.

Maybe UL-Breaux Bridge will hire him back as a linebacker coach? He just might be able to handle that?

But with the portal wouldn’t it also be wise to make the period where you don’t have a HC as short as possible? Seems if you have a lengthy amount of time without a permanent HC your roster (and coaching staff) would be ripe for pickin/tampering

In other words, wouldn’t it be preferable to fire your HC and hire your new HC within a week or so?

Obviously UCLA and VaTech don’t believe so, but I’m curious what the right way to play it is in the current landscape with timing of firing HC

Just wow. Hard to believe. He really pulled a good con on UF.

you can't hire a new coach sooner than the end of the season regardless, so I don't really see the point in firing someone mid-season unless you plan on promoting someone from within. How exactly are you going to convince anyone to stay or come into the program from elsewhere when you don't have a head coach for several months?

You'd have to have a known quantity and homerun hire ready to go. Maybe they could get Urban back. Or the Ol' Ball Coach to sort of be a caretaker.

Probably but if Napier agreed to step down I think UF would agree to pay him for those final games then his buyout. The transfer portal might affect the decision though.

With his buyout...yes..we will suffer because Napier's agent made Stricklin his bitch.

The question might be do they have their guy already? Probably not since most had Florida doing pretty decent this year. The sooner you come to terms(fire/resign) the sooner you can begin looking for a replacement. No one can transfer right now since it’s too late to enroll elsewhere so they’re stuck. Your best bet is to announce the replacement the Monday after the season ends.

I think Mullen had a win percentage around 70%.

It seems crazy he got fired, with hindsight.

For AU, Gus was around 66%.

I get that it is not just about wins/losses and is more about trajectory, but compared to Napier it is stunning.

Hope Florida wins.

They threw 5 INTS with a pick six and still only lost to LSU by 10. That's amazing.

Florida +7.5 sounds pretty good.

If Miami totally destroys them, Billy will probably be done.

No. UCLA and Virginia Tech are already in the new coach market so UF won’t wait until the end of the season.

Mullen was destroying the program and needed to go. He might do better now that NIL is around but he did alright at first due to a weak SEC East at the time but let the talent go downhill. He got lucky in late 2019 and 2020 that Trask was on the roster from the previous coach.

Mullen was .600 at Mississippi State
He was .694 at Florida
He is 1.000 at UNLV

Napier was .769 at Southwest Louisiana
He is .488 at Florida

For Napier to reach .694, he would need to be 48-21, and he currently 20-21.

Put another way, it would take eight straight 10-3 seasons to get to Mullen's winning percentage.
