The Dawgs played a good Tennessee team in their place. Tennessee hit a lot of big pass plays and put us in a position to have to convert on offense time and time again. Ste… I mean Gunner made some incredibly clutch plays in the face of a lot of pressure. Bobo called some great plays and a number of new and innovative plays. He also called a run up the middle on third down that netted 15 yards or so.

In this thread, we will explore where the Kancer Dawgs are now on Bobo and Gunnerson.

I have had NO issues with Bobo this year. His play calling has been solid thus far.

but I'm gonna give credit where credit is due. I thought Bobo called a good game.

What new innovative plays did he call? He reverted back to his bs run run pass for a few series in the second half when we could have taken a bigger lead.

IMHO as a whole he did better, but yeah there was that. Still no where near as dynamic as Monken or Buster Faulkner. Would love to see Faulkner as our OC. GT is a well coached team and his offense is dynamic. To be fair his QB is more seasoned so it may be he has a better command of the offense than Gunner does of ours at this point. Will be able to better compare apples to apples at the end of the year after Gunner has more time in the system as starter, so there's that.

Overall I was quite pleased with playcalling. My issues, same as everyone else, were the run/run/pass after we got the turnovers in the second half. Annoyed at that but honestly I don't know if that's 100% on bobo.

We all watch the games. We all get frustrated with it. So I'm sure kirby would be frustrated with it too, yet he allows it if not outright requests it. I was frustrated with the run choices on those 2 drives...yet we also all sit here and glue our shorts over the opening 2H drive where we ran it down their throats with like an 11/1 Run/Pass selction. So I mean....I can at least somewhat get over those other drives.

Overall though, you call plays to win the game. however that occurs. The offense had 28 first downs, over 500 yards of offense, and dominated the TOP. And the cherry on top to me, we didn't have any false start penalties in that kind of environment. Hard to get too down on the offense with all that in mind.

Unless they were double reverse passes or fumblerooskis, you probably wouldn't have noticed.

That could be something special. There's very much an Old Guard feeling about Bobo, but the shiny thing waiting in the wings will always be attractive when we run it up the gut for no gain a bunch of times.

If our WRs caught last year like Humphries 4th & 6 TD to tie Saturday, Carson Beck would have been on an NFL roster yesterday.

Maybe, maybe not, but I'm trying to see what new wrinkles we added.

Hard to complain about running too much after we gashed them in that 3rd Qtr drive…threw for the TD (albeit we didn’t want to be in that situation) and 2pt conversion and then ran down to the 4 yd line first play if OT.

It’s almost like the plan was to wear them out.

The answer is always this related to this poster.

Just to put some context around that 4th down play.

It had at best a ~15% chance of working and that is what you draw up to convert? Over the shoulder, corner end zone on what was essentially the last play of the game for us. This wasn't a great call by Bobo, it was an unbelievable throw and catch with Gunner and Humphrey.

Putting Bobo aside, Gunner played great and I think he put to rest his "inability" to throw the ball down field 3 games in. For me, he is the starter for every game that he is physically able

What read was Humphries on that play? What were the other options and what routes did they run? What was the play?

What’s the percentage chance of converting 4th and 6 with any play call?

Kirby said it was intentional as we needed a quick score(and a 2pt conversion) and UT would be focused on stopping the first down. Given we probably lose with or with our the first down due to time, it was a brilliant all or nothing call that got executed to a t.

There was 2:32 left on the clock when that play was called. It wasn't a last second play, we also had the 2 min warming + 2 TO's left if it didn't work.

A deep in/dig or crossing concept that attacks space beyond the sticks, especially middle of the field. That would probably have given you ~30% chance vs ~15% on a contested fade.

You are not taking into account what happens if you don't convert the 2 point conversion....

You still have over 2 min left with essentially 3 timeouts
