SEC Olineman of the Week

He and Green both had solid games (Green reportedly graded out at 90 in PFF). Huge improvement from week one.

Listening to Kelly and Richards on the radio, one was left with the impression every other rushing attempt was getting hit in the backfield. Was most of the penetration problems on the right side of the line??

Norfleet was part of the problem. He had a solid day receiving but he had defenders fly past him on a couple of stops kU made on 3rd down. Peagler had some problems as well and Wilson took his reps to close the game out.

I noticed Wilson in there at the end. I need to rewatch the game in a different state of mind than I was in on Saturday, if you know what I mean.
My hat's off to Guidice for the award and the improvement, in my eyes, from week 1.

It was very much like that. I think 100 yards for Hardy came after contact. So he only ran like 10 yards on 25 carries before getting hit. So on average he was going 0.4 yards before ku got to him. Pretty disappointing performance from the OL despite the stats showing our domination.

If we can get Hardy going sooner and with a lot fewer hits to shake off, he’s going to either house a lot more runs or rip a lot more 20+ explosive runs. Same for Robert’s. They being the juice when fully accelerated. With the blocking Shrader often got, they’d be putting up madden numbers.

Trost, Green, and Guidice had solid games. Trost has a run blocking grade of 80 for the season which is top 10 for FBS linemen.

Peagler had a run blocking grade of 48 for the game leading to Jones pulling him out. Tollison had some struggles as well and his penalty knocked his grade down as well.

I'm guessing Tollison had to say something to a kU player. As soft-spoken as he is, it surprised me to hear his number for unsportsmanlike.

Whatever Tollison said backfired. Per the PFF link Tiger97 shared, kUs 3 DTs were among their highest graded players. They covered Tollison most of the afternoon regardless of the front they were in and gave him the business on several plays.

Along with his low run blocking grade, Peagler was responsible for the man that blocked the first PAT.

Plenty of stuff to clean up for sure. This week might be a good chance to get other guys on film early in the game. Maybe see more of Wilson and/or Early.

I do like that Drink was not happy with the excessive Zone play and not being aggressive. He said that will be addressed.

All I can say is if our O Line performs against a good team like they did against kansas, then we are in a world of hurt. O line overall earned a D- as far as I'm concerned.

I thought the OL graded out surprisingly well.

The running grades were pretty poor other than I think one of them.

A little concerning. That will stop when we start facing SEC defenses

it is very concerning to me but Drink seems to think that is all correctable. I guess I have always felt either an OL player had the killer instinct to run block or they dont. I understand pass blocking can be greatly improved with coaching but can it do the same for run blocking?

I understand, but going by the eye test not so much...as other posters put it well, if we didn't have hard nosed, hit hungry runners we would be in trouble.

I always hate to question effort, but I am concerned about that, which reflects on Coaching. It's difficult to Coach it up, but I saw a lot of standing around while the play was still in progress. That is inexcusable and is easily corrected in the film room.

Yeah, standing around before the whistle will stand out like a sore thumb on film.

Missouri had 47 rushing attempts and 11 went for 1 yard or less. 4 of those were because of missed blocks by the TE room. Norfleet got roasted twice by Kamara and another time by the other edge defender. Kamara also got by James when he was in for a 12 personnel package with Harris. All four times they were flexed. The other 7 plays were a mixture of whiffs by Peagler, Tollison and Green. Tollison doesn't act like he is fully back from that injury or it cost him a step. Their DTs had a lot of success crossing his facemask.
