Gamecocks get the win in week one. It wasn't the prettiest game, but had some really good moments.

The good -

DL and LB's played well. We got really solid pressure from the front 4, and the LB's were speedy and impressed me.

The Bad -

Oline Play. At times they were god awful, letting multiple rushers through. I think they had Sellers jittery in the pocket. As the 3rd and 4th went on they looked better.

Run game - Mostly a product of the Oline play, but it didnt feel like we could string big runs together (aside from one drive)

Fred JayR Johnson - wow - 10 total tackles - 6 solo - 1 interception - in the defensive EZ no less -

17 was very good as well - Okoronkwo - good luck to Todd Ellis this season -

Okoronkwo left Alabama to come to Carolina -

Yeah - same feeling I think.

The run game was nonexistant in the first half. Serviceable in the second half.

Sellers was under pressure a lot. The line needs to step up.

The defense gave up a couple of big plays but most of those plays the defender was there and the receiver made some miracle catch. I like our odds on that going forward. Didnt give up a single TD.

We were 8pt favorites, won by 13, should’ve been 17.

It was an ugly game other opponents won’t let us get away with but hey, week 1, ugly game, still won by double digits? Not bad.

Not sure what we have but don't forget VT was 6-7 last year but mot of their losses were just 1 score difference. They also played Clempson pretty close.

I believe Judge might be done for the year.

Shula is trying to get Sellers to be more of a drop back QB and it's taking away from what he does best.

We are 1-0 unlike that trash school in the upstate.

Ugly OL play but I found everything else to be alright. No big hiccups in the kicking game either which was encouraging.

Hopefully they can get the kinks sorted next week vs SC State

SEC now interviewed Sellers after the game. They came up with a new nickname for Sellers: "The Erasure", because he erases mistakes.

And I get not wanting Sellers to take off (even if its exciting to watch). We don't need to get him hurt.

100% this. As bad as it felt, it really didnt feel in doubt. Almost like a Dawn Staley team when its tied going to the 4th and the ladies havent played well.

Fixing the Oline fixes all. Sellers a few times was jittery in the pocket and that led to some accuracy issues. Next week might be a solid tune up performance, give him some confidence in the pocket before Vandy. Vandy is a step up but their pass rush isn't as good as VT or an elite SEC team. It's a good schedule to work into our tough games.

I feel really good about this team.

and super shout out to the blocking on that punt return in week 1. That blocking was the most disciplined blocking I have maybe ever seen. It completely erased questions I had about discipline. The attention to detail is there

Watching the sc state game was brutal. What a pile of dung that was. Totally exhausting.

Said this in the other thread, but at the top of the 4th quarter shane mentioned in the on field interview how he would like a lot more offensive TDs... aka Shula better get his fricking act together, as well as the OL.

Vandy is gonna run train on us if we can't move the ball. I am not excited for next week. Especially not after Vandy hung 44 on VT and UK played OM as close as they did.

Call me a doomer or whatever the frick but I could easily see us limping to the bye at 2-3 more than I thought we'd be 5-0 at the start of the season.

How is it Tenner and Bama can hang 70 on a creampuff every season yet we manage to pull this garbage every season? Chaps my hide.

Ok optimistic-ish take here now:

Defense again excellent. Lesser competition but still looked great. Swain excellent, special teams were special.

Offensively, we were probably running limited playbook and relying on conditioning and talent to pull through to win instead of showing our hand. Trying to find some silver linings here but it's tough. Did not outgain SC State on offense. That is not good no matter how you slice it.

frick yall see you next week.

Injuries were an issue this week and the defense still played well. I think the pressure we get will wreck some havoc Vandy like it did last year.

Offense has to be so much better. From the OL up to Sellers. That side of the ball lacks a leader.

That said, I do think we kept things lowkey last week...let players sit if they were banged up at all, even just a little bit. It's not an excuse for us not pushing State around though.

debatable . Easier on my nerves...yes, but ODU is far superior to SC State. Nobody on offense impressed me.

I am curious why we continue to start adaway, and maybe this is where Dawn and Beamer are too similar. Maybe it's loyalty to players in the program, but Faison should be starting, he is far more explosive.

SC is the trendy upset pick this week..Beamer needs to elevate this program where Vsndy should never be thought as being able to win.

And I totally understand why they think that way.

Give Vandy credit. This talk would probably be happening if they were playing about anyone in the country aside from 2 or 3 schools. A lot of this hype they have produced.

Definitely a big game for Shane, he isn't used to being the higher ranked team in one of these bigger matchups of the week
