Just five blue-chip recruits in 2026 class remain uncommitted

quote:

The 2026 cycle remains unique given the lack of top prospects that remain uncommitted heading into the fall. It’s been well-documented to this point that the cycle is ahead of schedule, but the numbers still look staggering.

As of Aug. 26, just five of the 400 blue-chip prospects in the 2026 cycle — according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies — are still uncommitted. This month has already seen each of the final three uncommitted five-stars come off the board, leaving little meat left on the bone.

Prospects:

219. DL Emanuel Ruffin
252. LB DQ Forkpa
253. LB JaMichael Garrett
266. RB TJ Hodges
380. IOL Maxwell Robinson

The days of kids holding out until NSD (even the 1st one) appear to be over.

Commit and secure the NIL deal, then flip if a better one comes along closer to NSD. Commitments mean nothing anymore

What surprises me is the lack of decommitments in basketball vs football. It's rare to see someone flip, and in football I've done to expect it about half the time.

I've thought a lot about that too, my guess is, that there is much, much more time for recruits to spend with coaches in bball, than football. This of course includes the recruit's family too. There is only 3 - 4 players per class, if that sometimes. And, they begin with some kids at freshman year or earlier. So, it would appear to me, when a recruit commits, all of his questions about the program & financials are answered. So are those of the parents & the representatives. Plus, with bball, a parent can sit near the bench and watch the coach and know what's going on...it's up close and personal. Football really doesn't allow for that by the nature of the game. Just my opinion.

I remember one of the national recruiting guys talk about this. The gist is that there’s a lot more unwritten gentlemen’s rules between the coaches in basketball. When a player commits, most of the other coaches back off and only reconnect if the kid reaches out to them. CFB they never stop.

Momma's house needed a new roof and Mr. T starter kits don't pay for themselves. Get that money now!
