Guaranteed spot in the SEC or Big:
Notre Dame, UNC

Probably will make either the SEC or Big but no guarantees:
UVA, Virginia Tech, FSU, Clemson, Kansas

Complete toss up:
Miami

Probably won’t get an invite to either conference but there is still hope:
Duke, NC State, GA Tech, Stanford, Cal Berkeley

Totally screwed:
All other teams

Why not Duke do you think? They have a huge basketball fanbase so they will draw money

It depends on how valuable basketball is and how badly the conference that gets UNC wants to keep that basketball rivalry relevant.

I’m not sure Clemson or FSU have options outside of the Big 12.

Clemson and FSU are big enough college football brands that I expect they would get an invite. However, they may not. They aren’t AAU, so the Big may not be interested. And the SEC already has a presence in Florida and South Carolina.

No matter UNC goes, if they go, they will play Duke every year in basketball. That will not change and from here locally that has been told with all inquiries.

Yeah, but it won’t be as big of a deal if it isn’t a conference rivalry.

We might as well grab Notre Dame up since CFB has become the SEC vs the Big 10. They have the best history, resources and TV viewership.

If not, I think Clemson and FSU would be good fits.

Candidates

—— AAU
Notre Dame
Miami
UNC
UVA
GT
Kansas
Duke
Colorado
California
Stanford
Arizona

——- not AAU
FSU
Clemson
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Oklahoma State

The B1G will pull from the 1st group.. the SEC will pull from both groups.

My guess:

B1G

— to 20
Notre Dame
Miami

— to 24
UVA
GT
California
Stanford

SEC

— to 20
FSU
Clemson
UNC
Duke / Va Tech

— to 24

Arguments about having a presence in a state already or bringing cable boxes are outdated

It’s all about how many views a new brand will bring versus the other big brands in CFB

That means it’s ND, FSU, Clem and then the rest, in that order

ND has no reason to join a conference until they are forced to (when the SEC and B1G break away in the next decade) which leaves FSU and Clem as the top 2

There is no discernment. It also doesn’t matter if you get espn via IP or digital cable, it’s all the same. If it didn’t matter, Clemson and FSU would have been in the either league prior to signing a new deal.
