Alabama/LSU gets treated like a legit rivalry because of Nick Saban

LSU is 27-57-5 all time against Alabama
Alabama has more wins in Baton Rouge (30) than LSU has in the series (27)
Alabama has won by two touchdowns or more six times in the last ten years
LSU hasn’t led the series since 1902
Alabama has won eight of ten against LSU
The game mattered more because of the Saban element. Without him, LSU shouldn’t be treated like a rival.

Football is the only thing that Alabama has.
And they have to cheat plus exaggerate their record to feel important about it.
Pitiful.

Permanent rivals is a hot topic. LSU isn’t worthy

This is true. It wasn't a rivalry until Saban got there.
Why would it be a rivalry? LSU sucked arse in the 90s. Before 92 there was no West to play for.
Alabama had longer running series with other teams besides LSU. It's currently 4th on Bama's radar. Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia are bigger for Alabama now.

bama vs lsu has never been a rivalry. It was media contrived

To be fair, all those night games from about 2008-2016 were absolute cinema. I don’t blame people for thinking it’s a heated rivalry.

LSU went 1-4 in those games, at home, at night in Death Valley. Close games doesn’t equal worthy rival.

Kentucky 36-2-1 93.6%

Mississippi State 77-16-3 81.8%
Missouri 3-2-0 60.0%
South Carolina 12-3-0 80.0%
Tennessee 53-37-7 58.2%
Texas A&M 6-2-0 75.0%
Vanderbilt 61-18-4 75.9%
Total 471-188-2 68.7%
This is bama’s record against all SEC teams as of 2024. Now I’m not saying LSU/Bama is a rivalry, but it’s one of the 4 most played opponents in Alabama history and more played than Auburn and UGA.

Your numbers are flawed.
Alabama has played Auburn 89 times
Alabama has played Miss State 108 times
Alabama has played Tennessee 107 times
Alabama has played LSU 89 times
Auburn is a rival. Tennessee is rival. LSU doesn’t match those two when it comes to a rivalry. Auburn matters. LSU mattered more because of Saban.

It wasn’t anything special prior to 2007.
The 17 year run with Saban did make it a special rivalry for the foreseeable future even without him still coaching.

I didn't realize how seriously LSU fans took it until I joined this website. I knew they were a passionate fanbase, but was mostly treated well in BR while tailgating, aside from the year I saw them spitting on the 'Bama players as they were exiting the tunnel (trashy as frick, but still not an indictment of everyone.)
It was just a fun, usually competitive SEC game to me, and that was it. Then I joined this board, and holy shite. I did not realize the amount of brain damage a great many of their fans have actually suffered due to Alabama over the years.
So I think most of the Alabama fanbase doesn't realize the absolute seething hatred these guys have for our team and athletic programs as a whole. I was fine with not knowing, but the most vocal corndog retards melting over the game on this site sure does make the annual LSU arse-whooping that much more enjoyable.

LSU is 3rd or 4th on Bama's list and Bama is 1st on theirs

I would agree in the fact that most fans didnt care that much until Saban went there. But this has nothing to do with Alabama. LSU is one of the rare schools where its rival changes from year to year. I think you will see in the next decade that this thread will make a lot more sense.
Also, Alabama has been extremely lucky to have the two of the greatest coaches of all time be their coach. Yeah and yall were some cheating bastards too.
