to claim the fictitious NCs? Feeling a little like they don't get any attention? Shouldn't they be used to it by now?

I think it is an attempt to change the vibes around the football program. They've had four consecutive losing seasons, and the overall vibe of the program has been crap for five years now. Freeze, so far, hasn't had the impact they thought he would have. This move is an attempt to inject something positive into the program. It's not like reports out of camp have been glowing with optimism.

With the online video of your coach slamming his visor down in frustration with Arnold because he, apparently, was struggling knowing where to go with the ball, I'd bet the quarterback situation isn't going as rosy as they had expected.
But we'll see in a few weeks what reports had validity and which ones didn't. Once the season starts most questions get answered pretty quickly with all teams.
