1. Alabama 1941 ??
Record: 9–2, AP #20.
Only recognized by Houlgate system.
Consensus champ: Minnesota.
Verdict: Widely regarded as the weakest SEC claim.
2. Tennessee 1967 ??
Litkenhous math system only.
Consensus AP champ: USC.
Lost Orange Bowl to Oklahoma.
3. Auburn 1958 ??
Record: 9–0–1, Montgomery system.
Consensus champ: LSU (11–0).
4. Alabama 1973 ??
UPI coaches poll awarded pre-bowl.
Lost Sugar Bowl to Notre Dame.
Post-bowl consensus: Notre Dame.
5. Auburn 1993 ??
Record: 11–0, on NCAA probation (no bowl, no TV).
Only National Championship Foundation recognized.
Consensus champ: Florida State.
6. Kentucky 1950 ??
Record: 11–1, beat #1 Oklahoma in Sugar Bowl.
Retroactive recognition only (Jeff Sagarin, etc.).
Consensus champ: Oklahoma.
7. Tennessee 1950 ??
Record: 11–1, Cotton Bowl win vs. Texas.
Minor selectors: Billingsley, DeVold, Dunkel, CFRA, NCF.
AP/UPI champ: Oklahoma.
8. Arkansas 1964 ??
Record: 11–0, won Cotton Bowl.
Minor selectors only (Helms, Poling).
AP/UPI champ: Alabama.
9. Tennessee 1940 ??
Retroactive selectors (Dunkel, Poling, Williamson).
AP champ: Minnesota.
10. Auburn 1914 ??
Retroactive Howell computer system.
Army and Illinois were consensus champs.
Thoughts:
- Don't agree with no. 4. UPI awarded Bama the championship trophy. No, they wouldn't have been champs if another poll had been conducted after the bowl game, but that's the way they did it then. Is Notre Dame's claim more legit? Yes. But Bama's is still legitimate.
- Have no idea why Alabama wants to claim the 1941 title. They have other unclaimed titles that would be less debatable (still highly debatable but less than that one). The only thing I can think of is they wanted to distance themselves at the time from Notre Dame or something. If they had just waited for Saban, no need for it and it's something that gives some legitimacy to folks making fun of all the claimed titles. The overwhelming majority are legit, but that does tend to tarnish it enough that people laugh at the overall title claims.
- 1993 Auburn- You just have no shame if you are claiming titles while you were on probation. That's what the penalties are made for.
- If Kentucky has a claim to the 1950 title, Tennessee probably has a better claim. By the fifties though, AP and coach's poll were considered the benchmark. Tennessee beat Kentucky in the regular season and they both finished with the same record.
- The 1958 claim by Auburn is just as bad as Alabama's (1941) and Tennessee's (1967) in terms of illegitimacy. Just doesn't look quite as bad because they weren't ranked so low in the final AP poll.
- Considering the era it was claimed, Tennessee's 1967 could be argued as most egregious. Unlike Alabama's 1941 claim, by 1967 the AP and Coach's polls were pretty much accepted as the only polls or ranking systems of relevance. Tennessee still claimed the title based on one selector's ranking system with two losses and losing their final game.

I think everyone has access to ChatGPT these days. They could look this up themselves. No need to post it here.

I think everyone has access to boxscores, the all SEC preseason teams, a tweet from twitter by Lane Kiffin, etc. etc. etc.
So let's just nuke this freaking place and move on.

The regular season and bowl games used to mean something.........lol
1950 Tennessee/Kentucky aren't really weak claims, IMO. The only reason Oklahama is the National Champion is because the final polls were released before the bowl games, and Oklahoma's loss to Kentucky.

Penalties cannot disguise how great a team has played in their season. The goal at the end of any season should be to award the best team the National Title. You can't put what Auburn did on the field vs what FSU did on the field and seriously claim FSU looked better.

Auburn and Tennessee are desperate and sad

Last week, I would have agreed with 1941 Bama being the weakest.
Auburn has now made at least 5 weaker claism. At least Bama was actually awarded the 1941 title by somebody. Auburn now makes multiple claims awarded by no one.

In fairness, the only original stuff that shows up on this board are troll threads, and many of those have been done over and over and over again. There is ver y little, if anything new on here that is not simply regurgitating news, statistics and opinions from other people.
Threads on the front page as of right now:
Final National Polls
Flashback: As the Plains Burn
In case you want to understand why Ole Miss is the "Rebels." (Complete with a link to......Twitter
Auburn now controls Louisiana (Another Twitter screenshot)
This is the year LSU returns to glory (This shows up at least once a week)
Will Texas A&M sue the Minnesota Vikings for copying their boy cheerleaders? (Troll thread based off internet article)
Suddenly there are championships that schools are trying to claim but there is only one…… (Talking about other schools claimed championships. That's never been done before, right?)
And on and on it goes. No offense to you, but why pick this one thread out when there are countless others to choose from on a daily basis?

I actually depend on ChatGPT for some stuff but they do get things wrong on occasion. How can Arkansas at 11-0 in 1964 be a weak claim? They didn’t do the AP or whatever poll until after the bowls. Alabama lost theirs and Arkansas won theirs to go undefeated. Some may argue it but it certainly doesn’t belong in any weakest claim list.
