Not opening a Facebook link grandpa but without looking, I’m sure it’s as tacky as the plastic vagina the team runs out of

So because I am older, this is all pretty amazing to me… last time I was in football locker rooms was playing South Texas 7th grade football in the 1970s in our stinky un-air conditioned old concrete locker room under the stadium with peeling paint…

At 76 lbs back then, I kept getting body slammed on the field by the 185 lb guys with hair on their chests who had failed several times… Thus in high school, my sports were hunting, fishing, and golf, ha…

Anyway all the glitz these youngsters get now is really something…

I think it was aggy (of course) who came up with the Texas Uterus football stadium association, and I actually think this is hilarious…

The olympic sport athletes at Texas are probably using those same locker rooms.

Yeah, probably…

Oh yeah, I also just remembered that our two toilets we had in our shittie arse 7th grade South Texas football locker room were just sitting out on the concrete floor without even any privacy sides. If anyone had to do their business, our teammates just laughed at them. Very glamorous, ha…

Didn’t UT Austin give LSU a crappy non air conditioned locker room when they played us in Austin and Joe Burrow beat us? Seems like I remember some LSU complaints about that…

Even though that’s way better than my stinky 7th grade locker room, it’s still pretty shittie…

That was a combination of the Big 12 and the greater commercialization of the football program starting in the 90s.

In the SWC all visitors and their bands were mandated pretty good seats. This was the entire SWC. There was a special deal with A&M where both sides gave one another 10,000 tickets only for that home and home series.

When Texas moved to the Big 12, the other Big 8 schools put the visitors in the corner and limited the amount of tickets available. So Texas did the same thing. In addition, they moved the students and Texas Longhorn band to crappy seats so they could sell the premium seats to rich donors.

Texas and A&M ended their special agreement.

When Del Conte took over as AD he didn't exactly restore the students and band to premium seating, but he did make them a contiguous group in the lower level, bringing them down from the east side upper deck, which was ridiculous in the first place and a pure money grab.

But the tradition of terrible seating for visitors continued. There's no separate allotment for the visiting band, so other programs have to make a choice between providing tickets to the marching band or to well heeled donors. Since the SEC has a way more generous policy within the conference, Texas looks crappy by comparison. Deservedly so, IMO. I would like visiting bands to be given a separate allotment, and for visiting fans to be given decent seats in a contiguous area, but that's never going to happen. Too much revenue to be made. They'd have to explain to donors why they're being moved to worse seats, and that's not a phone call anyone in the AD office wants to make.

I wish someone had the balls to force the UT admin to provide the same kind of seating the rest of the conference provides to visitors. IMO it should have been a condition to bringing them on in the first place. I've never heard complaints about A&M, so it makes me wonder how they handle the same issue.

I agree that we should find a way to be more hospitable to visiting teams…

No need to give them one more reason to hate us…
