My son is a Sr at Spain Park. Just got moved to Tight End.

I pull for Hewitt-Trussville, Moody, Leeds, St Clair, Springville. Plus my alma mater Vincent. But in general I just like good high school football and that can be found at many high schools throughout the state at every level of competition.

Something has to be done about the recruiting and school transfers.

Blocker. They rarely throw to the tight end by scheme but he’ll be hot on plays that break down so he better be ready.

It’s awful. Spain Park would have been the best team in the state if all the kids that my son grew up playing with had all stayed. They’ve had way too many get poached.

Auburn’s own Jared Smith being one who left them before the season even ended. My son will be very conflicted cheering for him at Auburn.

Yes it sucks. The schools I pull for primarily do recruit as well. It sucks for the kids that come up together to lose their spot as a should be starter.

Vincent doesn’t have the money nor the facilities to recruit. Shelby County school system is a joke. There are 2 districts in the school system for funding. All other schools in one district. Vincent alone in the other.

DAR 4A region 7. We have sucked for the past 5 years when we started playing musical coaches. This is the first season in that timeframe we've had the same coach consecutive seasons so not many Srs and only a handful of Jrs play.

Oxford here. Played for the Yellow Jackets in the early 2000s. My nephew played OL and won a title with them in 2019 when before Coach Etheredge left for Auburn.

Should be pretty good this season. There's talent all over the field (including KJ Britt's little brother). However, they will be breaking in a new sophomore QB. He is young but has the pedigree. His brother also played QB and got a scholly to Louisville, but the new one is supposed to be a better athlete.

Should be a fun season.

Ensley was burned down and leveled several years ago. Auburn players from Ensley included Erk Russell, Kenny Burks, Jimmie Warren, and Kenny Parham. I’m probably leaving somebody out.

I guess I could pull for Oneonta, Vestavia, Pinson or Enterprise bc of family connections.

How bad is recruiting really? I’ve heard about it but never been around enough to know how serious it can be. I played ‘07-‘10 at a talented but pretty average school so we never ran into issues with it.

Do families really up and move to a different city just for a kid to play for a different school? Why does it matter - if they’re good enough in this day and age won’t they get recruited anyway? Have a hard time believing talent can truly go unnoticed with all the recruiting resources.

Maybe I am naive though. Just seems ridiculous.

They really do. It’s nuts. I’ve seen Thompson, Hoover, Clay-Chalkville and others get my son’s teammates to move over the last 4 years. One played as a Freshman, moved to another school, came back last year and this year is back at the other school. It’s really crazy. In a lot of instances it’s not as hard to move because their are a lot of divorces and split families living in different locations.

They will, but they have to put in a lot of work on their own time and make an effort to be noticed.

If you can land at a school that is a perineal playoff team and featured on statewide/national broadcasts it is much easier.

For example, where I am in Georgia, Buford High School has a student population of just over 1,900. The Gwinnett County school system (largest in the state) is right next door with 24 high schools ranging in size from 2,000 to around 4,000.

Buford is a perineal playoff team, and as such recruits kids frim the Gwinnett County footprint all of the time.

Yes it’s that bad. If you’re in 7a and not recruiting from lower divisions you ain’t winning. Only school around my area that I haven’t heard of severe recruiting is Chelsea.

I don’t hear much in the 4a-1A divisions about recruiting outside of private school that play in AHSAA. But I have no doubt some of these spread out smaller schools that a couple players transfer over to the better team each year.

He really is. It's a shame Oxford couldn't hold on to him. I heard his ask wasn't all that much and was definitely an earned pay raise. But apparently, someone or a small group decided to be hardheaded and not budge in negotiation with Keith. So, he ended up in Auburn.

He also took a lot of the talent with him or players (like NewBoy Fegans) left for other programs because the incoming guy was unknown at the time. But coach Sam Adams has been solid after having to play really young guys year after year and we are back to being a steady team that can contend for titles again.
