There is a thread on the main board about future schedules that got me wondering.

Has anyone heard any rumbles on who we might schedule to fill this gap? UCLA had to cancel on us when they joined the Big 10.

Auburns future Power OOC opponents:

2025: @Baylor
2026: Baylor
2027: -
2028: -
2029: @Miami
2030: Miami

Scanning the schedules for these years shows there are only a handful of possibilities for 2027 and a few more options for 2028…

2027:

Best fits: Virginia, USC

Both of these have an opening in their schedules AND don’t currently have a game booked against a Power OOC opponent. I think Virginia in either Atlanta or Charlotte on Labor Day weekend looks like the best possible fit. USC is also free in 2028 so we could still schedule a home-and-home. But since we just did that one in the last 20 years and since USC is probably in the same boat as UCLA in trying to ease into the Big 10, I think that’s doubtful.

Other possibilities: Pittsburgh, Rutgers, TCU, SMU

These all have a power opponent booked, but they are home games. So they may be open to filling the leftover gap in their schedule with a neutral site game. Pitt plays Wisconsin at home. Rutgers plays Boston College at home. TCU plays Stanford at home. SMU plays Oklahoma at home.

2028

Best fits: USC, Michigan, Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana, Rutgers

All of these have openings and all don’t currently have an OOC power opponent booked, or an OOC road game scheduled.

Other options: Syracuse, Northwestern

Syracuse has an opening but has already booked Penn State at home. Northwestern has an opening but has already booked UCF at home.

My personal wishlist would be Virginia in Atlanta to open 2027…. Winnable game that would be all orange and blue and mostly Auburn orange and blue.

For 2028, I’d love to set up a neutral site game against Michigan in Nashville, Indy, or Chicago. That would be an incredible atmosphere.

Midwesterners love going to Nashville, so Iowa, Iowa State, or Indiana in Nashville would also be a good option.

Don’t want to play any orange and blue teams, no Illini, Syracuse, or UVA.

Wish we could play Va Tech and Pitt.

No USC …. their fans were mostly a’holes when they visited the Plains. There were some unruly fans in the bars the night before too. Lost all my respect for “the vaunted Southern Cal” … no thanks.

Met a few nice folks, too … especially in the tailgate areas.

Overall, … no thanks.

Don't care. Only team of significance we have never played is Notre Dame.

With the playoffs ever expanding and the season gettin longer I see no reason to schedule future power 5 ooc games.

Eventually the SEC should go to a 9 game schedule with 3 OOC games.

Cohen just said on the radio that they are close to inking some very exciting OOC matchups.

With Alabama and West Virginia canceling their series, the Mountaineers are now a possibility for Auburn’s schedule in 2027.

Perhaps Labor Day in Atlanta or Charlotte.

I ultimately think it will be them or Virginia in ‘27.

With the 9 game SEC Schedule I really hope that we have 5 road, 4 home with Baylor at home next year and we continue the trend. 5 SEC games at home odd years, with the OOC game on the road.

None of these teams sound like Clemson or Wisconsin.

I think this is likely to be the plan for 2028 and beyond… but we’ve waited so long to find a replacement series for 2027-28, we might not have that luxury. UCLA canceled on us when they joined the Big 10, so there’s not many programs with an opening for both of those years and who are willing to play us both seasons.
