I’ve noticed the Auburn fans I know really don’t have anything to say negatively. Most of them are shocked we lost to Vandy and OK.

Is it just because of the situation they are in right now or are they really not that bad of a fanbase?

There’s a bunch of other fanbases that talk way more shite than they can back up.

Auburn fans do the best job of laying low in the weeds and being self-deprecating until their team has a kick arse season in football again, because Auburn fans have the most experience at this. Pattern recognition.

Traditionally Auburn has thrived while Bama is down. But AU is so bad now that they still can’t beat Alabama on field or in recruiting during/after our worst season in nearly 2 decades and the departure of Saban.

And when I look at Freeze, I don’t sense a Pat Dye run coming like they had following Bryant leaving.

We don't care enough about football and suck too bad at it. We save all our energy for basketball now.

Kinda hard to talk shite about losing to Vandy and Oklahoma when, you know, you lose to Vandy and Oklahoma.

This. But yeah, our football program is garbage and will seem to be that way for the foreseeable future. It's all good.

The irony is the fan bases of teams that are genuinely owned by Bama in football talking incessant shite to live vicariously through a Vandy.

To the OP, I genuinely have no issue with AU fans. Outside of the extreme fringe, who clearly exist on both sides, it is a pretty respectful rivalry with a lot of banter around the games played vs each other. I think it has shifted to a much more heated rivalry in recent decades, but it is still more brotherly competition than the hate I hold for any UTk success. Their base is the worst, especially when they have any glimmer of success.

Too be honest I still care about the School more than I do one of our sports teams. Yes, I’m passionate about our sports but it doesn’t impact my life.

You’re not wrong!

But we’re way overdue for a kick arse football season.

2000, 2004, 2010, 2013, 2017…should have had one around 21/22. Should be due in 2026.

They are trying to get out of the wilderness. The fans are just hoping that Freeze has a game plan that brings the barners back to glory. At this point, no one can be sure which way it's going.

Regardless of what our rivals think, AU people are pretty self-aware. We know what we're bad at, what we're weird about, so forth. We know our reputation, know which parts of that are true and which are stupid, etc., whether we admit it to our rivals or not.

In the aggregate, we know that it would be pretty dumb to make fun of a school for going 9-3 when we're going 5-7. We simply don't have the sheer numbers to have a large percentage of our fan base made up of those types who just throw caution/social propriety/self-respect to the wind and run across a restaurant to shout at you because Bama lost and you're wearing a Bama shirt. Which is a good thing in a way, but bad in others (primarily $$$)

Honestly, hard to know what to expect until the rosters become set …. then some credible discussion can probably occur. No need to talk shite given recent performance.

A lot of Auburn fans remember how depleted our kicking game was in 2024 … with a healthy McPherson I suspect Auburns wins at least two more games , and possibly 3 games (Vandy, Mizzou, OU)

When McPerson went down, McGough stepped in for 4-5 games, then we finished with Vachon the last 3-4 games …. but by then, we were rarely attempting much outside 30 yards, where McPherson has a 50 yard leg.

Injuries/illness are just realities of the game … and having a good K room is a must have in the SEC

The 2004 Georgia/Auburn game was the most physically thorough beatdown that Georgia had experienced under Ritcht at the time, and those Richt teams were really really good. It was shell shocking. Fun fact, Auburn's undersized linebackers inspired Georgia's staff to start recruiting undersized linebackers, but our undersized linebackers ended up not working as good and it set our defense back a few years.
