A girl with a father who is just truly an a-hole at heart?

No matter what I do he is just a very difficult man. Even after a decade.

Not even giving examples..its really too hard to believe..

The man is 82 with health issues and seems to have 9 lives..

Believe me I try...we are in the same business, and even at 82, half blind with a permanent boot and a walker, he is still around at times.

That puts you in a tough position. Hard to keep away from someone in a situation like that.

I'm afraid I'm gonna need examples. I am pretty sure I can one-up you but I need an idea of what I'm working with here.

My FIL was an arse to his family, multiple affairs on his wife, never attended kids events, etc.
He's always been nice enough to me, but I didn't come along till he was an older man.
Scarred my wife to this day though.

Is he the only person that is mean to you? Have you ever taken a good look at yourself to see why everyone hates you?

Stand up to him and tell him the truth.

If he can't handle it, then cut him out of your life.

If you have taken his shite for 10+ years, you tried. You don't have take his shite anymore.

OP points a finger at his (claimed) father-in-law yet three point back at him.

Sorry, only been married once and my father-in-law was always nice and pleasant. And my son-in-law is awesome, so I never have issues with him either.

But my advice is to think of it like a troll here - no matter what they are going to be that way, so just ignore it.

Probably just an old school man that didn’t change with the times. Doesn’t like or trust technology.

Also have to remember that “no one will be good enough for his little girl”

Ask your wife’s old boyfriends how he treated them! haha

This is the right answer. Going no contact with my in laws has been wonderful for my wife’s mental health and our marriage.

My FIL is good people. Hard working, good heart. He’s a bit eccentric, but is a great grandfather. He’s getting sick too, probably don’t have too much longer with him.
