I'll preface this by saying this is my first post and first comment so bear with me for the long message.
For starters, I still have 95% faith in Freeze.
Why? Well for starters I think we lost 4-5 games last year that I would like to put the blame on our special teams (all of them but mainly the FG's) and untimely interceptions. I know you can't go back and change the past, but I think we were one or two plays away from a completely different outlook on the season.

Expectations: I know expectations for last season were not to win a national championship, but more so to build on our recruiting classes and start having positive momentum going forward. Which we sort of did (limited by the losses) but we still got great players in the transfer portal and high school for the next season.

Recruiting: This is the big one... 2 top 10 classes and elite talent through the portal that are finally old enough to where I believe they can compete this season with SEC talent. We have a projected 3-4 1st round draft picks this next season with the last time being 2020 that we had a first round draft pick (Derrick Brown). I think people are overreacting at this point in the season about our current commits and decommits but personally... I don't care about them RIGHT NOW. I think people that have players committed now are paying a hefty investment in players that may or may not even play meaningful snaps. Obviously I would love a top 10 class at this point in the season but I think recruits considering Auburn can only be painted a future at Auburn without seeing any results on the field.

This season....
yes this season will be the deciding factor on the future of Auburn football. I think you start with Baylor and that game will determine if we have a top 10 recruiting class for next year. Win a few games and recruits will flip/take visits to Jordan Hare and see the atmosphere and be absolutely blown away. It will come down to QB play at the end of the day but I think there's no reason to think Jackson Arnold can't be an average SEC qb this year. That's all you need for him to be. Average QB play is an upgrade from what we had last year and with the team itself being better, average QB play gets us 8 wins IMO.

SO... all that to say, don't freak out at this point in the season for the recruits that are jumping ship or those that think we're losing 10 games this year and firing Freeze before the season starts because he doesn't have the #1 recruiting class in the country. Win some games and the support will come right back.
WDE and trust Freeze.

3-4 1st round players? Who?

Keldric Faulk possibly yes
Singleton maybe/maybe not

No one else is close entering this season.

CBS Sports posted a mock draft a few weeks back with 3: Xavier Chaplain, Faulk, and Eric Singleton. Not saying it’s for sure gonna happen but there’s no denying the talent is there this year. (4 may be a stretch unless someone like McPherson has a great year again. Not sure if he’s even eligible) CBS Sports mock draft

Obviously not meaning McPherson is 1st round talent. Just that he could be another draft pick. (Just needed to clarify that before getting roasted)

You are going to get roasted if you contribute. That is the rules.

I like your take. You outlined your thoughts, your reasons and gave some very good points. Its is much better than some of the numb nuts we have here, myself included

But I am sorry to tell you but Freeze sucks at gameday coaching and no amount of 4* purchases from Aisle 3 will fix that. Hopefully he bought enough talent to beat the likes of NMSU but I would not get my hopes up for him constatly beating teams with similar or more talent.

But I like your post. Join in on the bullshite posts I start anytime.

To be fair, how desirable was the Auburn head coaching position when it was available? Yes we had “resources” “sec play” and it’s a high level coaching job, but look at the dumpster fire Harsins left us when he got fired. It was a disaster and you had mid-major talent playing against SEC competition. Not sure many coaches could have coached their way to a winning season with that talent. I think Freeze was brought in to get us the talent first, and then hopefully at the very least that gets us back on track. His recruiting should be good enough to win 8-9 games a season like Gus could. Who knows… 9 wins could get you a playoff birth by playing in the sec and I sure would take from what we were left with 3 years ago. Not saying Freeze is going to win us anything with his coaching but recruiting is where it starts in my opinion.

That is my biggest gripe. It doesn't matter how many times he tries, he just can't cram that square peg in the round hole.

Honestly, it was the same as everyt time Auburn has looked for a coach pretty much in my lifetime. Not as attractive as some here want it to be.

Its not the money or the talent, it is the program that keeps "Good" coaches away from the plains

And it always has

AU football has hired two HCs that were considered upper tier in the last 90 years or so - Dye in 1980 (who had no major conference HC experience) and Tubs in 1998 (who came in a pine box from Oxford)

almost every time we have had a vacancy we have heard big names mentioned, but never have we managed to persuade one to take on the job

thats who we are as a program

More or less what I was getting at. The Harsin hire was not much different than the other hires. Underwhelming.

And on top of that, the control that the boosters had during the Harsin era was insane. I don't know how any coach could see that job as being desirable if they thought they were going to be controlled like a puppet the entire time.

Even if Freeze isn't the best gameday coach (I agree he's not) what other choices did we have? Kiffin clearly wasn't going to come here, Deion was a name tossed around , correct me if I'm wrong but at the time Freeze was considered one of the best available coaches (outside of his past history off the field). So realistically what could we have done and who could you have hired at the time that has the potential to turn the program around as fast?

I have breaking news: the boosters that donate the majority of the money have a lot of say so at every school. Auburn isn’t unique in that.
