Why didn't Arkansas make the double play?

I'm going off memory...
In the bottom of the 9th, LSU had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out and the batter hit a routine grounder to the SS.
Shortstop never even looked at second and went straight to 3rd base to get the force out, rather than trying to turn a double play to end the game.
They did get the out at third, but (I think) the baserunners that advanced to 1st and 2nd ended up being the ones that won the game.

Why didn’t Aggy make the postseason?

Since it's pride month I'll answer your question. I bet the runner running across his face (I'm sure you get a lot of that) while he was fielding the throw made his mind snap to getting the guy out at third. He just forgot that he could turn 2 or how many outs there were.

He made the decision to take the quick/easy out at 3rd. It’s been discussed a ton that it was the wrong decision in that situation and a mental error. he definitely should have gone to 2nd.
That said, it’s still 5-3 and 2 outs after that out at 3rd (with the tying run still at first base), so it didn’t “lose” Arkansas the game. While definitely a mistake, they absolutely could have still recovered from that missed opportunity of a potential double play. The much bigger play and mistake IMO was the ball to left.

Didn’t they convene on the mound just prior to that batter? They definitely discussed what they were going to do, where they were going to go with the ball. Dunno if that’s what subsequently occurred, but they definitely would’ve discussed options among the infielders prior to the play.

Had no idea. It's cool that you keep up with that stuff, though.

The curse wouldn't allow him to make that play.

Was it guaranteed that they would have got Milam out at first. That didn’t seem routine to me, but still a dumb decision not to go for the DP.

Youre supposed to mentally run down those situations before the pitch. If you have a good team, they'll communicate to each other where to go with the ball.
Sounds like neither of those happened. Arkansas was asleep.

Even if it wasn’t, the lead runner was not the tying run. At worst, you still have the tying run at first (same as what actually happened).

Correct.
It denied Arkansas a chance to win the game

He was playing out of fear. What if the double play didn’t work out? He already knew he was going to 3rd.
Just a scared DVH ball club.

gonna throw this out there
perhaps throwing to third was the correct play but not throwing from 3rd to 2nd for the 6-5-4 DP was the real mistake

That swept your wimpy team and coach this year. You have no room to judge after being run out by a directional texas team who owns your pathetic program. Piss off.

So, an Aggie fan, a team that didn’t even make the tournament, at all, is criticizing a top talented team that made it to the final four?
We know you are retarded, and your entire school and sports programs suck, but really?

ZERO in 12 appearances.
That’s Aggie level failure.

This. Or even to 1st. The 3rd baseman just stood there, meanwhile Milam was jogging thinking he was out.
