This is arguably as good a secondary as Saban ever had, the D Line has some familiar faces for once in a while. Our WR room is second-third in the country.

Ty is as talented a QB as we need and more talented than QBs we’ve won titles with. Jam is consistent and our OL is probably the best in the country by a large margin. There’s probably 3 first rounders on this OL.

We should compete for a natty no questions asked.

Based on his phenomenal performance against South Florida?

Yes and no. We had the talent but a transition in power always comes with hiccups. We also had a somewhat cobbled together staff with Grubb’s departure and clearly some issues with the secondary coach.

Any time you have that many distractions and the constant shadow of replacing the best to ever do it, things can get tricky.

We have a tough schedule but we have a lot of talent and should have no extra nonsense

Man I like our secondary but 2016 had Marlon and Averett at corner, Minkah at star, and Eddie and Ronnie at safety

If Alabama fired DeBoer at the end of the 2026 season they'd still owe him roughly 51 million dollars as long as it is without cause. We do not have the money to pay him 51 million to go away and then go and hire a top coach to replace him.

Brown, Domani, and Calhoun will be drafted.

That’s just the corners.

It’s really going to come down to the OL and QB. I think we are going to be really good at most of the other spots. Grubb being an OC that has spent many years as an OL coach gives me some hope that he can make it work.

I agree, Grubb changes the entire outlook of this team. Our OL has been average for years. This is the most talented line we’ve had in a while too.

Perhaps. However, our schedule is pretty difficult this year.

Before October 1 we will have played Florida State on the road, Wisconsin at home, and Georgia on the road. We also have Missouri on the road, South Carolina on the road, and Auburn on the road. That's to say nothing of our home games against Oklahoma, Tennessee, and LSU.

I agree, but if we can’t beat State and Wisconsin then DeBoer isn’t the guy.

Should be pretty battle tested then.

I was watching the 2016 USC game last weekend (thanks to the algorithm), and my jaw was on the floor remembering the almost 40 NFL players and coaches who were with the team back then.

BTW, since you mentioned Marlon:

IMO with all this bubble and WR screen nonsense today, we need to get back to physical corner play, à la him and Dre Kirkpatrick. There's just something so fearsome about it, especially when you have experienced safeties over the top.

Dijon Lee Jr., would you please come up and demonstrate for the rest of the class?

ETA can’t remember if it was ‘15 or ‘16, but Marlon coming up to meet Fournette at the LOS and then blowing his arse up was one of my favorite plays of the Saban era. We’ve had some very violent dudes in the secondary.

Alabama should be in the playoffs more years than they aren’t. Accepting anything less is silly. It’s the greatest program of all time and should be one of the 12 best teams most years. I’m not saying every year but most years. I’m not saying Alabama has to win the National championship every year but they need to be one of the 12 best most years. There really is no excuse not to be.

Yeah, obviously schemes and techniques change over the years, but we really seem to do best with headhunters.

Those all-pro offensive types really don't like straining for extra yardage in the 4Q, down two scores, when they've already taken a straight-up beating for 45 minutes.

How many of those teams get to have a Bye Week before playing us? The SEC has been screwing us in that regard for years.
