What if Florida had won the 2009 SEC Championship Game?

It's the offseason, people are bored, and I often wonder what would have happened had Florida defeated Alabama in the 2009 SEC Championship Game and went on to beat Texas in the BCS National Championship Game. Do you think Meyer is able to sustain the Florida football program or were there cracks in the seams that were irreparable and that only Tim Tebow and the other juniors/seniors could hold together?

Nah we would have probably lost to Texas. There were too many players who were wheels off at this point. I knew we were in trouble when Carlos Dunlap got a DWI the week of the SEC Championship game. He was never in any trouble. When your good guys start messing up, you know it is the whole team.

I’m not even being a jerk when I say this because I’m at the age where I find it more sad than entertaining but that Florida team had a lot of pretty terrible people on it. Or at least that’s how the documentary made it seem.

I think he might have stayed past 2010 but don’t think he would have won another natty.

Florida did regroup for the Sugar Bowl and played very well. I think they would have beaten Texas.

2009 Florida was not the juggernaut they were post-Ole Miss in 2008 with Mullen and a healthy Harvin. They were still damn good, though.

Biggest issue for Florida against Bama was a lack of focus. Those guys already had 1-2 natties and an emotional game against FSU in The Swamp. Tebow’s last home game and all that jazz. Then the Dunlap situation.

Meanwhile, Alabama had focused on that game for a year and had an extra day to prepare. The close call against Auburn was probably good for them. Kept their edge.

I would compare it to the first Rocky (Florida) and Clubber (Bama) fight. Rocky had his head up his arse and Clubber was hungry.

I wouldn't be watching anyway, just like the supermajority of all other sports fans.

Florida was not beating that Bama team. Bama was laser focused on that specific game.

We played so well against Cincinnati because a certain head coach abandoned them after saying that he was staying.

I would've liked to see McCoy play.

If Florida beats bama, they go on to beat Texas and join the elite ranks as one of the greatest dynasties of all-time (3 of 4 NCs).

Better question for urban & UF’s longevity for me has always been, what if Trent Richardson commits to UF instead of Alabama. I think that would’ve changed the course of a whole bunch.

Trent Richardson and Derrick Henry could have been at UF if not for this phase of Florida blunder

What is florida won the 92 SECC? Is the title tame abolished? Would that have slowed the progression to the horror that is today?

I agree. Georgia, Florida, and the entire SEC saw BAMA coming in 2008. The 2009 season was a dedication to finishing the job, and the dynasty was on.

Pretty terrible scientific guess slick. But good to know that there's someone here that won't bother commenting on any baseball posts.

1987 does this throughout the year where he posts hypotheticals with Bama from 1992 or posting highlight videos of bama teams.

It's kind of weird tbh but that's his thing I guess .
