Everyone says Nick was paying players but is it fair to say everyone did it too? I mean, Cam got paid by Barner, and he took more money than what Mississippi State was offering. I can only assume all teams have paid players like Vince Young, Reggie Bush. I watched the story about “the greatest that never was” Marcus Dupree a kid from nothing Mississippi who went to Oklahoma and “the boz” and they were both getting paid huge back then. New homes, money cars, etc.. I also understand a dollar in the 90’s worth much more in today’s world, but how did we get to the point to where we are now? Nico should be honored to play for Tenner. I hate them as much as crawfish on a Chinese buffet in December, but Tenner is an iconic program. How did we get past loyalty for the school? It’s the same in the business world today. People say don’t give a shite about the employer because they don’t care about the employee, but it’s not true. That employer gave that person a job, fed them and their families, provided amazing opportunities to grow and be successful, just like universities do, but like Nico they get it in their heads the name on the back of the jersey is more important than the name on the front. So frick him and the rest of the dirty rotten scoundrels that follow him. I hope he misses this season or rides the pine so they can make a show about him called the “QB whose played with his daddy’s balls, and now works at UPS”

I didn’t read all that, but the current system sucks. I nominate this post for understatement of the decade.

Everyone was doing it, but not everyone was including a charger. You had to keep it discreet. Unlike Hough Freeze.

I have zero issues about players getting paid and leaving for more since coaches do it all the time. Contracts for coaches don’t mean anything why should they mean stuff to the players?
I do feel this NIL money won’t last forever. Soon it will normalize and players will only get a couple hundred grand a year max

When has this ever been the case? Coaches may leave from one school to the other, but it never happens or very rarely does within a few years. Most coaches sign contracts tracts for several years.

No not everyone was doing it …. 2 wrongs don’t make a right …. If there are rules and no one is getting punished then people will break rules until you get caught . NIL isnt NIL it’s pay for play and even with the 20 mil a year people will still be paying players extra to come . Until a school gets fined millions and coaches lose jobs nothing will change. The punishment has to be so strong that people won’t even try and cheat…..

Coach Gordon Gecko:
“Ever wonder why fund managers can’t beat the S&P 500? ’Cause they’re sheep — and the sheep get slaughtered. I been in the business since ’69. Most of these high paid MBA types, they don’t add up to dog shite. Gimme guys who are poor, smart and hungry. And no feelings. You win some, you lose some, but you keep on fighting . . . and if you need a friend, get a dog.”

Coaches also have a buyout to detract from schools poaching them. Players should have the same thing. If a player wants to leave early, that’s fine, pay the buyout!
