It depends. If you are talking about basketball fans, it has to be Pearl. If you are talking hookers, then Hugh is the guy.

Honestly, it's Bruce Pearl and Nate Oats. I'm sure that grinds some within the state of Alabama because "we're a football state" and whatnot.

10 years ago Hugh had the media slurping on him harder than the Tampa women.
Nowadays Pearl has the more recognition for actually accomplishing championships and wins unlike Brother Hughs mightve beaten Vanderbilt and Califorina if we played them again schpeel.

I assume the football guys have more name recognition despite the bball coaches being arguably more accomplished.
Honestly, Hugh might have more than Kalen, although if so perhaps not for very good reason. I think for a HC of a title-competitive Alabama program not far off its arguably historic peak, Kalen Deboer probably still has pretty low name recognition TBH. For stuff like this, it doesn't help that his name probably isn't the easiest for a casual fan to recall (and in contrast to Freeze for that matter).

Considering that Pearl and Oats have been front and center nationally with some great teams while DeBoer has only just started and Freeze is still working on rebuilding Auburn... it makes sense.

Your post had some sunshine pumping in it.
If either coaches loses five games this season, they are out. And they lost 11 or 12 combined last year if that tells you anything.....

quote:to put that in perspective
cost for Bama to fire DuBoer after 2025 season: $69.3 million
Bowden’s buyout (1998): $0.6 mil
Tuberville’s buyout (2008): $5 mil
Chizik’s buyout (2012): $10 mil
Malzhan’s buyout (2020): $21 mil
Harsin’s buyout (2022) $15 mil
total AU HC buyouts in the previous 27 years: $51.6 million
even if we have to pay off Freezus, it will still be less than what Bama would have to pay one HC

Depends on who you are asking. In the south, I'd guess Hugh Freeze has more name recognition than any of them. College football coaches are bigger stars than college basketball coaches.
