Drew an average of 6.36 million viewers. It was the most watched first round game since the current television format began in 2011.

I don't consider Arkansas a blue blood but a big basketball brand that causal viewers like to watch.

A Johnny come lately that back in the 90s was marching toward that category until it was nuked by the Nolan firing.

You can’t convince me that the committee didn’t set up the Cal/Self/Pitino matchups on purpose

I would even go as far and say having Cal as the coach really helped with the NCAA tournament resume.

100%. I think we'd probably be one of the play-in teams if not for the Cal fame/viewership factor and interest from the big off-season story it created.

I don't think anyone should be shy about admitting that either. Arkansas paid good money for that brand, and that's exactly what it is - a brand. That's why he can bring in top recruits with ease.

We're playing with house money at this point. A good showing against St Johns and a close entertaining game that goes either way will get huge viewership numbers, and will make Arkansas fans very happy considering we had literally one team member when Cal landed in Fayetteville and the injuries throughout the season.

While getting into the NCAA tournament is a good accomplishment considering the terrible SEC start and injuries, we are paying way too much in NIL to be satisfied with a second round appearance.

A sweet sixteen appearance would be huge for Cal as it would silence many critics that argue that he is washed up and can no longer get a team to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament.

We are back to the 90s expectations. Making the NCAA tournament isn't good enough but expecting to make deep runs each year is.

It was followed by St. John's (big market) so the entire night drew well.

The Arkansas men's basketball team's NCAA Tournament first round game against Kansas on Thursday drew big viewership numbers for CBS, the network announced Friday.

The primetime window on the tournament's opening day, headlined by the matchup between the Razorbacks and Jayhawks, drew an average of 12.2 million viewers. It was the most-watched first-round window in the history of the tournament.

When they were introducing and talking about the teams of course Kansas and their history were a big deal. We have a good history but when they mentioned cal as the coach it was an equalizer of sorts because of his accomplishments. There was no intimidation factor for the coach.

I’m not used to having a coach like that and it took me aback a little. It seemed to put us on par with that team. Pretty cool.

But that’s just my take.
