Has this ever happened before? The #1 overall seeded team is the 4th ranked team in the AP poll heading into the tournament.
I don’t think this has ever happened has it?

Why worry about little things called resumes. How do you think Bama has so many fake championships in football?

When is the last time the #1 overall seed going into the tournament was ranked #4 in the AP poll?
That is what this thread is about.
Not Alabama football. But thank you for thinking about Alabama football.
When was the last time this happened?

The reason you’ve gotten no answers is because no one gives a donkey’s dick. Period.

Maybe because it’s 2 o’clock in the fricking morning?

SoJ Stat Attack
In 2023 Bama was 4th the week before the final AP poll but jumped to 1st. They lost in the sweet 16 (none of the top seeds made the elite eight for the first time ever).

Before 2004 there was no overall 1st seed but in 1990 Oklahoma was given a 1 seed at 15th in the AP (because of how they played in the Big 8 tournament). They lost in the second round.

I've been told on here many times over the last few days that Auburn had the #1 seed locked up in November

#1 “overall” seed hasn’t been around that long so probably not. But not sure why that matters. There are 2 completely different criteria in their rankings. NCAAT looks at overall resume and body of work, as the AP is more of a snapshot of comparison from week to week. Makes sense that Auburn would drop in the AP and not lose the #1 overall seed

No. Not November. But when half the fans had disappeared out of Rupp Arena with 10 minutes still to play because of the beat down Auburn was putting on Kentucky… that’s when it was locked up.

Has the #1 Seed ever had to play a team ranked #10 in the AP in the second round in their own backyard.
Let's be honest, the #1 overall means zilch when you put them in the toughest bracket and make them play the winner of a Louisville/Creighton game in Kentucky.
And we played 27 freaking games against teams in the top 90 NET and something like 20 against ranked teams. But we need to keep proving something??
