Sam Pittman was worried about Bobby backstabbing him?

Amid rumors about Bobby Petrino, Pittman remains composed as fans and media discuss potential coaching changes. With speculation about Pittman’s job security, many believe that Petrino, the former head coach turned offensive coordinator, could be his eventual successor. But Pittman made it clear on the Coaches & The Mouth podcast that he isn’t worried about backstabbing or job security.

“I think if you hire a coordinator, you ought to let him bring at least one of his guys in,” he said. “Not for coming into my office and backstabbing and this. None of that stuff.” Looks like Pittman trusts his staff, backs his approach, and won’t entertain the noise.

The trust also reflects in how he is shaping Arkansas’ roster and culture. Coach Pittman highly values loyalty by hiring assistants with previous connections to the Razorbacks, such as offensive line coach Eric Mateos. Mateos was so eager to come back that he agreed to a lower salary.

I don’t even think Sam should have addressed any internet rumors if he was asked on a podcast, but I haven’t seen the podcast yet.

He can say all he wants, but Bobby would stab him in the back in a heartbeat. I like Sam, though, and hope it doesn’t happen.

Sounds like Sam is making it known to his assistants that if he gets let go, and any of them try to take his job, it’s backstabbing.

What a shite article how do you remotely draw that conclusion from that quote. That quote says you can bring in some of your noise but if you try to take the house out youre going down

One of the rumor mill tabloids. Their headline was grabbing.

Article

It’s not a bad read. But they didn’t need to get into a Bobby taking Sam’s job rumor.

Bobby established a reputation years ago that will remain with him from now on. Only Bobby knows if he’s still that guy.

The fact that Sam took him in proves he will do what he can to try to win even though he’s hand tied by the administration.

This isn't news or even a rumor really. It's just the natural through progression when there is a guy on staff with much better credentials than the HC. There has been nothing to lead people to suspect any active back-stabbing. Just clickbait

Petrino is going to hug Pittman after a loss and give the AD the John Cena heel look.

Wasn’t the reasoning from the University for rehiring Petrino was that he wasn’t in a position to hire and fire so it was ok?

If so, why does anyone think they would just put him in such a position?

I’d be fine with someone stabbing Pittman if that what it takes to get rid of him.

That’s the problem with Sammy. Too many of y’all like him instead of hate him. That means he doesn’t win enough. Time for him to go.

Please give me one example of something in Petrino’s long history in the public eye that would possibly indicate that he was anything other than completely trustworthy.

While this is likely true... I think some of us like him kind of in the same way people liked Hoss Cartwright on Bonanza... Kind of big, kind of dumb, but very good hearted.

Sam needs more blind fan support. Football is the least funded sport at Arkansas. His talent gets poached every season. I don’t think Arkansas fans would mind paying an extra $20 a game like horn hiked up their football ticket prices, and Arkansas basketball hiked up their ticket prices, for NIL either. Landon Jackson proves Sam can find talent in the portal and develop it.

Football easily had the most funding until the last year.

A football ticket price increase, right now, would go over about as well as a fart in an elevator

Our overall talent level has been roughly on par with Ole Miss the last several years, with worse results. The football program under Sam has proven to be poor ROI. Right or wrong, Sam is going to have to prove otherwise before money starts pouring in, that’s just reality
