Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee now find themselves vying for a 1-seed, and these four sit aside Duke and Houston as the clear Top 6 best resumes.

Unfortunately for these 6, four will have to be combined into a region with one of the others, and really the goal for all of these teams is to NOT have to play in a region with one of these other teams.

Here’s how it currently stands according to a sampling of several bracketologists:

SOUTH: (1) Auburn vs (7/8) Wisconsin / Michigan St.

If Auburn can land the #1 overall seed, we’ll undoubtedly get the South Region and it appears we’ll get the #2 Big 10 team as the 2-seed… could be Wisconsin, Michigan St, Michigan, or Purdue. Right now it appears to be Wisconsin.

EAST: (2/3) Duke vs (5/6) Tennessee / Florida

Duke appears all but certain to land the East region. Finishing as the 1, 2, or 3 #1 seed will get them here.

They seem certain to likely draw the #3 SEC team as the 2-seed… likely Tennessee or Florida.

If your Tennessee or Florida, which do you prefer? The East Region which means not having to travel out west but also having to play in the same region as Duke? Or do you prefer to go out West and draw Houston instead? Ultimately the committee will likely assign them based on assumed geographic preference.

MIDWEST: (2/3) Alabama vs. (7/8) Michigan St / Wisconsin

As of now, the #2 SEC team looks to be destined to play the #1 Big 10 team in the Midwest…. Like above, could ultimately be Michigan St, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Purdue… depends how they finish.

WEST: (4) Houston vs (5/6) Tennessee / Florida

Houston seems very likely to land the #1 seed in the West, and they’ll be rewarded by drawing th SEC’s #4 team.

Worth noting, games still left to be played:

Alabama @ Tennessee
Florida @ Alabama
Alabama @ Auburn

Bama could likely grab the #1 overall seed if they won all three. They’d undoubtedly fall to #4 in the group if they lost all three.

If they win 1 or 2, they likely finish #2 in the SEC pecking order.

I think the possibility of 3 SEC 1 seeds may have died in Athens on Tuesday. It is going to be hard to pry it away from Houston now

I haven't yet said it, but I will take this opportunity to do so now.....

Congratulations, Auburn, on a fantastic basketball season you're having!! (yes, I am a classy guy!)

They’re sitting at 10 quad 1 wins and Auburn has 15.

About the only way they get the #1 overall seed is if Auburn doesn’t win another game and they win out and win the SEC tournament.

This is true. The committee does not want to have three 1s from the SEC.

They will use the Georgia loss to keep Florida off the 1 line UNLESS Florida wins out and beat bama away. (Then they pull bama off the 1 line).

That is my guess.

Interesting side note. Saturday could be a historical night. Auburn hasn't won at Rupp since 1988. Looks like Pearl may very well end that streak.

Thank you. We are enjoying it, especially those of us who have suffered through so many forgettable seasons. It's great to see the entire conference up their basketball game too. Very impressive all around. I just hope an SEC team (hopefully us) can win it all.

Tournaments are crazy events and anything can happen. The basketball gods have blessed us so far, but they can be fickle.

Florida beats Bama then Bama beats Auburn.

No way they’re not all 1 seeds.

It's unfortunate that Mizzou will knock out at least 3, if not 4 of the teams mentioned. Would prefer to beat up on the other conference teams but we will do what we need to do. March will be madness for a lot on here.

Yes Auburn has the upper hand at the moment.

But if Bama were to finish 2-1 including a win at Auburn and Auburn finish 1-2, we’d be 15-3 and they’d be 14-4 with us splitting the series. I think that’d be close enough that the SEC Tournament would become a factor in who could grab the top seed from the SEC.

Auburn basically needs 2 wins, with one of those against Bama, and we can basically lock up the #1 overall seed before the SEC Tournament starts.

I said 3 weeks ago, the most difficult game left on Auburn’s schedule was playing at Kentucky. I think because of our history there, our guys typically walk into Rupp feeling defeated. Hopefully this team has enough swagger to break the streak.
