Why Seth Mclaughlin Had the Yips in 2023

Ryan Day was interviewed about the 2024 season and among other things, the transfer portal. He asked Seth what his problem was in 2023. Seth said that he was supposed to snap on a clap with no lead up to the clap and that got him overanxious. Ryan Day said no problem -- we are not going to do that and we will have a cadence and a lead up. During the time he played I wasn't aware of one "yipped" snap at OSU. See 9:46 here: LINK
I will mention that Seth has generally been very complimentary to both Alabama and OSU, but in an interview about 3 weeks ago he said it helped him at OSU that OSU sought his input, while Alabama didn't and wanted everything done one way.

Seth has snapping problems in 2022 when he had a different OC and QB. Playing in the stadiums we play 3-4 games a year in requires you to be able to snap the ball on a clap with nothing else. You have no other option in Baton Rouge, Knoxville, Auburn or A&M. It's a flat out requirement of the position.

Everything I have been told is that Oregon's Autzen stadium is extremely loud, maybe the loudest in the country. He didn't have problems there and almost certainly OSU used a cadence methodology at that game.
Would also say that Seth himself said that OSU's approach helped him.

Glad everything worked out for Seth. The excuses are bullshite. He needed a change of scenery and things worked out for both of us at the position.

Perhaps he actually learned from his mistakes

I really don't think they are excuses when the problem was solved. I realize virtually no one at this board dislikes Seth but personally I don't think he was making excuses -- he was looking for a way to play better.

Well cool glad he found a better way to snap or whatever. It's reasonable to say his nerves, apparently, single handily cost us a national title in 2023. So I'm glad it got fixed so he could help somebody else win one in 2024.
Frankly not replacing him in 2023 was fireable but the ol coach was a dumbass so yea probably all makes sense.

Well first all we heard was it was because Milroe was bad at calling the snap and yet our new center had zero issues snapping to him this year. Good for Seth. We don't really give a shite at this point to be frank.

Seeing how you would have beaten Michigan, I wish those problems weren't there in 2023.

I’m very happy for him having success.
Given what almost happened in the Iron Bowl and what did happen in the Rose Bowl it was time for a fresh start but everyone involved, but I hope he has a ten year NFL career.

Ignore folks like TOD. Our board is unduly infected by tough-guy keyboard warriors who want to show everybody what cold hearted BAs they think they are.

I said I was happy for seth roughly 5 times. I have no idea how what I said was cold hearted or keyboard warrioring. I'm glad he fixed it and hope he has a great NFL career. I'm pretty tired of hearing how actually him being unable to do a thing 99% of guys playing his position can do was the QB or the coaches fault.

Seth needed a fresh start and sometimes that is the best thing for both parties. It seemed this was one of those cases. We didn't have near (if any) the bad snaps this season and neither did Seth. So it was a win/win for both. That's rare in the game of life. I'm happy for him and hope he can have a long successful NFL career.

Didn't you call some of our players animals for listening to rap music a couple of years ago?

No.
And that’s not even relevant.

Technically he didn't call them animals, he said "a little more" than animals. So is a little more than an animal still considered an animal? It's parsing words but words do matter.

You sure about that?
I appreciate your taking the time to comb through I don't know how many conversations to prove me right on the matter.
