i think it has to do with how much those silly hats cost him.
at some point in time, about 15 years ago, he liked only ONE of those hats. but it was expensive and just like Dirk Diggler did with those Italian boots, he said, "frickit, im gonna get these" and a whole bunch more because they were buy 10, get 10 free.
now he is stuck with them because that's where 40% of his savings went, and he launched a weirdo personality to match them.
that personality yearns to be his own original sub-type of Andre 3000.
he's committed to it.....begrudgingly.
