Ohio State national champions for 2024? Not so fast.

According to the Wolfe Ratings — a mathematical college football ranking designated amongst the National Champion Major Selections by the NCAA — it was the Oregon Ducks who finished the season ranked No. 1 in the nation.

In the meantime, ESPN released its 'Way-too-early' 2025 college football preseason rankings..........

Notably........UGA is the ONLY program in the nation to have been preseason ranked among the Top 5 in the nation each of the past 8 years......South Carolina is preseason ranked #10 -- congrats.

Dan Lanning and Brian Kelly have a hell of a lot in common.

They've got a lot more NOT in common. I'd take Lanning over BK all day long.

Reminder that this is effectively the same argument used to declare USCw the national champions in 2003.

Anyone is allowed to declare a champ.

Yep and then LSU defeated the "undefeated reigning national champ" UCF team in 2018.

Think its time to declare 2019 LSU back-to-back champs

Now we're cooking with gas. Could they all be on the Lincoln Riley train?

There was no argument, it was just the AP poll. Polls are simply a bunch of people's opinions averaged out. And they didn't just "declare" USC national champions, they were actually AWARDED national champions with a trophy - just like the AP did with LSU after the 1958, 2007 and 2019 seasons.

Semantics - only difference in awarding / declaring is presented a physical item here.

And using the prior years isn't relevant. Once all the conferences agreed to the BCS arrangement the AP trophy became as relevant as the Reddit trophy

Absolutely not. The last two years, Lanning hasn't choked games to double digit underdogs. That was a constant of the Cristobal era in Oregon and now at Miami.
