It’s at least clear that beating only one team with a winning record all year doesn’t bode well for playoff success.

I agree. Bama and South Carolina beats either of the teams that played tonight. They need to expand the playoff to 20 teams or get rid of the BS auto births. Why is Clemson or SMU in the playoff? The Big 10 didn’t earn equal representation in the playoff.
